The bar chart below illustrates the number of people aged 25 to

34 who have either rented or bought a home in the UK over the


past 11 years.

Overall, it also shows that the rental market has increased each
year, while the buyers' market has decreased.

The number of people within this age group who owned their
homes had significantly decreased since 2004. In 2004, almost
60% of all home owners were in this age group. By contrast, in
2014, the figure was less than 40%. Moreover, the gradual
decrease in home ownership from 2009 to 2014 had been more
pronounced. From 2011 to 2012, the number of people who
owned their homes stayed relatively stable.

However ,the rental market had increased dramatically over


eleven-year period. From 2004 to 2014, the figure of people
renting had essentially risen by nearly 30%. Again, this number
had been actually increased in most years, rising by just a few
percent each year. Besides, in 2014, the rental market reached a
peak at just under 50%, which was literally substantial.
