FULL TIME TRANSIT MECHANIC - CLASS A or B


Minimum Hourly Rate: $21.13 - $23.24 DOQ

Mechanics are provided work boot allowance, paid training and
education opportunities and work in a maintenance shop with air conditioning (for
the cold summer months, and heat for colder temperatures).
The transit mechanic is responsible
for operational and mechanical aspects of maintaining and repairing Fredericksburg
Regional Transit (FXBGO!)"s
transit fleet and service vehicles. Under general supervision, the incumbent will
repair and maintain a variety of transit vehicles; including
Body-on-Chassis" vehicles, automobiles,
trucks, equipment, and tools. The
position is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing and maintaining vehicles
and equipment
and assures safety
standards and policies and procedures are followed in order support FRED in
providing safe and reliable transit service. This position is
classified as essential.
Education and/or Experience

 A

High School diploma, vocational/technical diploma in automotive or other


mechanical and electrical training; or equivalent training and experience.

 A

valid commercial driver"s license (CDL) Class C with passenger endorsement


issued by the state or a CDL permit and the ability to acquire within three (3) months
of employment a valid Virginia CDL Class C with passenger endorsements.

 Must

be able to pass DOT physical examination and


maintain while employed with FRED Transit, ability
to pass a background check and on-going DOT testing and requirements.

 Transit experience preferred, but not required.
