Follow these steps when putting your face masks on. Clean your hands with

Adopting a Pet from the Pound
Owning a pet from the pound or Animal Rescue League has many
advantages. First, a child feels good about rescuing an abandoned or abused

aren’t adopted right away, they might be put to sleep. Having a pet also
means lots of responsibilities. A child must feed, clean up after, brush, and

Once you adopt a pet from the Animal Rescue League, it will quickly

How to Travel Solo Successfully James Baldwin said it best. “I met a lot of
people in Europe. I even encountered myself” (Baldwin, 2014). Solo travel will not
only reveal colorful new heights, it will also introduce you to yourself - your resiliency,
your sense of adventure, your independence. Learning how to travel solo is as
intrinsic as tying your shoes, and it is something that can be learned today.
The first, most obvious, way to travel solo successfully is to research your
area. The number one indicator of a tourist is someone stopped in the middle of the
sidewalk scanning the GPS on their phone. According to World Travel News Report,
four in fifteen tourists will be pickpocketed if they stand still on a busy street (Parker,
2019). Arrive well-informed on the area. Understand the public transportation system
to the point where you can blend in as a local.
Also, in line with safety, you may want to splurge on accommodations. You
can stay alone in a hostel but read the reviews carefully. Make sure it is in a safe
area and security is a priority for them. You might even want to consider a private
room, some of which include a private bath.
In terms of fun, pack for your lack of companionship. Bring a blank journal to
record your adventures. Pack a paperback to enjoy while you wait out a rainstorm in
a coffee shop. World traveler Samantha Byrnes says, “I never travel with friends.
When I’m exploring a new continent, my journal is my only sidekick” (Byrnes, 2018).
This allows her to absorb her new surroundings, make new acquaintances,
and focus on the act of encountering herself. Byrnes continues, “We lost sight of
ourselves in the day-to-day. We focus on work, family, to-do lists, chores. Solo travel
allows us to return to ourselves so that, when we resume our day-to-day activities,
we can give our all” (Byrnes, 2018).
Learning how to travel solo successfully is an achievable feat. You can stay
safe if you remain knowledgeable on the area and choose your accommodations
wisely. Beyond that, you can experience true transformation through the simple act

The Three Types of Planets
Three Types of Planets People often think all planets are alike, but there
are three types of planets in the solar system. The terrestrial planets are made
of rock and metal and are closest to the sun. These include the midsize planets
Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars. They rotate slowly and don’t have many
moons. Farther from the sun are the planets called gas giants, Jupiter, Saturn,
Uranus, and Neptune. They are called gas giants because they are formed from
gases such as hydrogen and helium. Gas giants rotate fast and have many
moons. Finally, planetoids are objects made up of rock and ice and are too small
to be true “planets.” Planetoids sometimes even get pulled into a planet’s
gravitational field and become moons themselves. Whether they are terrestrials,
gas giants, or planetoids, the planets in the solar system are fascinating.
Skills vs. Knowledge in Education
Education systems all over the world are based on the idea that students

get and remember information from teachers and books. These systems test
this knowledge with standardized tests which compare students to each-other.
They only test the kind of information which is possible to measure in tests. The
goal is gaining information, not developing skills by which to use and make
information. Unlike the old style of education where people remembered things
in order to pass tests and get higher scores than other students, the modern
world calls for a new kind of education in which the focus is deep understanding,
creativity, and information management skills.
Most education systems in the world are designed to make students

remember things. One reason is that schools feel the need to compare students.
They do this by giving tests. They want to be able to give grades and decide
which students are smart and which are not. They function as a sorting
mechanism for society. From the earliest grades, students are put on tracks that
will decide their futures.

Another reason school like to make students remember things is that by

doing so they will be able to test their knowledge and determine if they remember
or not. They believe that if students remember things it is the same as
understanding those things. Schools also like to impart knowledge because in this
way, although students can have different individual skills, they can all have the
same knowledge.
Einstein said “Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is

limited. Imagination encircles the world” (Needle, 2007). All the knowledge in the
world is useless unless you are able to use information in creative ways. Knowledge
is what other people have created. Understanding is all about what you think about
something. Everybody sees, hears, feels, and thinks differently. No two people in the
world have the same understanding of the same thing. It is impossible to give tests
on a point of view. Because of this, tests are illogical. The only reason tests exist is
to label students as “smart” or “stupid.” There are many kinds of intelligence,
however. One of the most famous researchers in the field of intelligence, Gardner,
found at least seven different kinds of intelligence (Gardner, 1999). Intelligence and
understanding are related. Unfortunately, tests only measure one type of
intelligence.
In the modern world skills are more important than knowledge. If a person
knows many facts, it is impressive, but not very useful. It is of much greater
importance to be able to find information quickly, organize that information, analyze
and understand the main ideas, put different pieces of information together
(synthesize), and create new information. Together these skills make what we call
information management and innovation, the skills which are most desired in the
business world.
Most people in the world believe that education is about remembering things to
take tests which measure one’s performance against other people who have
studied the same information. However, this idea no longer matches the reality of
the modern world in which knowledge is less important than creativity and deep
understanding. To be successful in the age of technology, education must focus on
helping students gain information management and innovation skills.

properties of a well-written text.

language use, and mechanics.

I. Organization
Ideas are well-developed when there is a clear statement of purpose, positions,

facts, examples, specific details, definition, explanation, justification or opposing
viewpoints. Organization is achieved when these ideas are logically and accurately
arranged.
II. Coherence and Cohesion
Coherence- sentences are arranged in logical manner, making them easily

understood by the reader
Cohesion- connection of ideas at a sentence level.
How can we organize the details of a paragraph?

A. Arrangement of details according to:
 Chronological order- the details are arranged in the order in which

they happened.
e.g. Many of the racial and ethnic groups that live in the Hawaiian
Islands today arrived at different times in history. Most of them came
to work as laborers on the sugar and pineapple plantations. The first
group arrived in the 1850’s, when the Chinese came. They were
followed by the Japanese in the 1880’s, and then the Koreans and
Filipinos in the early 1900’s. These groups were the last major Asian
immigrants to the islands.

 Spatial order- the sentences of a paragraph are arranged according

The Importance of Reading and Writing
Is the ability to read and write more important today than in the past? Everyone
has his answer depending on his experience and lifestyle. Some people think it is true
because people need not read and write in past. On the contrary, other people believe
there is not big difference between today and yesterday. As far as I am concerned, I
would like to say that reading and writing are getting more important for our life day by
day. In the following discussion, I will provide some reasons and examples to support
my viewpoints.
The main reason for my propensity is that knowledge is very important for us
today. Without education, it is very hard to find a good job and you will have a hard time
to do the work. There is too much new knowledge today. In the past days, people can
teach each other by oral, therefore, reading and writing is not as important as now.
However, if you enter a company today, your supervisor will only give you a instruction
book and tell you begin to study it. Nobody has time to teach you by oral. If you can read
and write well, you will get more smoothly at work.
Communication is another head and chief reason I have chosen to put here.
Many professions require people to work in team to solve problems and make decisions.
Reading and writing can help you to know other colleague are doing, on the other hand,
it can also help you to tell other people what you have done and your plan for next step.

The Meteor Show
The much-advertised meteor shows this summer was a memory of behold.

The air was crisp and cool. I did not even feel a hint of a breeze on my skin as I lie on my
back in the darkness. The warm temperature of the water against the cooler air created a
drifting airy fog that whispered over the lake. Darkness enveloped the sky as only a slight
curve of the moon shone in the night; consequently, this made the perfect stage for the
breathtaking view of twinkling stars. In the still of the night many galaxies glittered from the
depths of the sky as I felt hypnotically drawn into the mesmerizing show above me. Broad
irregular bands of light from the Milky Way stretched across the sky while the big and little
dipper shined brightly. As predicted, the meteor show began with various sized meteors
cascading to the earth's atmosphere about every fifteen to thirty seconds. Shots of light,
followed by orange and white mist, describes the presence of the meteors. The panoramic
view made it possible to witness several meteors at a time while marveling at each one. An
event like this may only happen once in a lifetime, so I will cherish this moment and it will
remain as one of my fondest memories.

Amidst the fears and worries in facing this COVID-19 crisis, the pandemic unfurled before us
has unleashed our core – character, discipline, and leadership. There is no gainsaying the fact
that we must live by the new normal. “Always wear face mask and observe social distancing” –
this has been our way of life, a simple preventive measure, properly followed and observed by
all, regardless of age, social status, tribe and religion. We stayed at home, enjoyed the company
of our family members, and kept our shelter away from the potential threats of the virus. It was
hard to change ways, but discipline kept us on track. On the other hand, preventive measures,
essential and supplemental needs, as well as contingency plans have been properly laid down
and provided by the Local Government Unit with the goal of assuring the general public that the
government is on top of the crisis. Release of Social Amelioration Program (SAP) funds and
distribution of relief goods have been arranged. Public information and awareness drives are
implemented through radio programs, barangay visits and we’ve witnessed health officials
educate people on the adverse effects of COVID 19 and how to prevent it. All government
agencies have been utilized properly, effectively, and efficiently. This is true leadership. Attested
by the changes that we have to make and pronouncements from the National Government have
to be followed. We have been very hopeful that despite the ups and down and the roller-coaster
ride of unpredicted events, we are resilient and optimistic – and these define our character. The
way we handle the situation may be simple, but the cooperation, commitment and hard work
from the constituents made our weapons very strong that the virus could not penetrate in our
land. Facing crisis is always a matter of discipline, leadership, and character.

Why Students Should Eat Breakfast Every Day
A lot of people, especially young people, go through the day without having breakfast. Many people
believe that it is not necessary, or they say that they don’t have time for that and begin their day with
no meal. I believe that everyone should eat breakfast before going to their activities. The purpose of
this paper is to show the importance of breakfast, especially for students.
The first reason why you should eat breakfast before going to school is for your health. When you
skip breakfast and go to school, you are looking for a disease because it’s not healthy to have an
empty stomach all day long. It’s very important to have a meal and not let your stomach work empty.
All you are going to get is gastritis and a lot of problems with your health if you don’t eat breakfast.
Another reason for eating breakfast is because you need food for to do well in your classes. You
body and your brain are not going to function as good as they could because you have no energy
and no strength. When you try to learn something and have nothing in your stomach, you are going
to have a lot of trouble succeeding. A lot of people think that they should not eat because they are
going to feel tired, but that’s not true. Breakfast is not a very big meal, and on the contrary, you’re
going to feel tired if you don’t have breakfast because you have spent the entire previous night
without food.
The last reason to have breakfast every day is because you can avoid diseases if you eat some
breakfast in the morning. If you don’t eat, you are going to get sick, and these diseases will have a
stronger effect on you because you’re going to get sick easier than people who have breakfast every
day.
You have to realize that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and you cannot skip it
without consequences for your health, your school and your defense mechanism. It is better to wake
up earlier and have a good breakfast that run to school without eating anything. It is time for you to
do something for your health, and eating breakfast is the better way to start your day.
