ASSIGNMENT-1

Objective: To create a House of Quality (HOQ) for a new product, in order to identify and
prioritize customer needs and requirements and to ensure that the final design meets those
needs.

Instructions:

1. Identify the target market: Determine the target market for the new product. Who are
the potential customers? What are their needs and requirements?

2. Identify customer needs: Gather information about the customer needs and
requirements through surveys, focus groups, and other market research methods. Use
this information to create a list of customer needs.

3. Identify technical requirements: Determine the technical requirements necessary to

meet the customer needs. These may include construction materials, design features,
design codes and regulations, and other factors that affect the design and fabrication
of the product.

4. Create a House of Quality: Using a House of Quality (HOQ) template, create a matrix
that maps the customer needs against the technical requirements. The HOQ should
include the following sections:

a. Customer requirements: List the customer needs and requirements in the left-
hand column of the matrix.

b. Technical requirements: List the technical requirements necessary to meet the

customer needs in the top row of the matrix.

c. Importance ratings: Assign a rating to each customer need based on its

importance to the customer. Use a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the most
important.

d. Correlation ratings: Assign a rating to each technical requirement based on its

correlation to each customer need. Use a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the
strongest correlation.

e. Final ratings: Multiply the importance rating by the correlation rating for each
cell in the matrix to calculate the final rating. The highest final ratings represent
the most important technical requirements for meeting customer needs.

5. Interpret the results: Analyze the results of the House of Quality to identify the most
important technical requirements for meeting customer needs. Use these results to
guide the design and fabrication of the new product.
 6. Refine the design: Use the results of the House of Quality to refine the design of the
new house, ensuring that the most important technical requirements are incorporated
into the final design.

7. Review and iterate: Review the design periodically throughout the construction
process to ensure that the final product meets the customer needs and technical
requirements identified in the House of Quality. Iterate as necessary to refine the
design and ensure customer satisfaction.
