Where are research ideas come from?

• Research ideas may be generated by the researcher or

provided by the sponsor in the form of a business
problem around which an informed decision needs to
be made.
• Research ideas that do not flow immediately from a
business problem may often be clarified
+ by questioning senior researchers, executives, and
decision makers about the problems they face,
+ by examining published research in fields of interest, or
+ by examining past research projects that may suggest
areas worthy of subsequent investigation.
