Course Syllabus: Philosophy of Education

Course Description:

This course is primarily for students interested in pursuing a career in education and provides a survey of the history and philosophy of
education with emphasis on current problems in education, on significant educational innovations, and on the school as a social institution. It
introduces social, philosophical, and historical perspective in education. Students will examine the teaching field, current trends, and teaching as
a profession.
LEARNING GOALS
Provide an opportunity for prospective teachers and other interested persons to have an overview of the history, current problems, and
future trends of public education;

By the end of the course, students should be able to:


1. Understand the Philosophical concepts and theories related to education.
2. Provide an opportunity for teachers and other interested persons to have an overview of the history, current problems, and future trends
of educational system in the Philippines.
3. Analyze the significant role of Philosophy in education and in one’s life.
4. Apply principles on how Philosophy on Education affect the school management, and the teaching-learning process.
