1. Course Title: Presenting in English

3. Units of Credit: 2 ( Theory: 0.5 and Practice: 1.5)
4. Entry Level: 2nd year students
5. Time Allocation:
- Theory : 9 periods
- Practice : 21 periods
- Autonomous learning: students are encouraged self-study while subject to the
teacher’s periodical assessment. The minimum time for self-study is 90 hours.
6. Prerequisites: - Students are required to have completed Listening 1, Speaking 1,
Reading 1, and Writing 1.
7. Course Objectives:
Upon successful completion of the course, students will achieve:
7.1 Knowledge: Students will be able to:

- recognize the organization/structure of a presentation;


- effectively use vocabulary and knowledge about structures used in presentation;
- explain verbal and non-verbal communication patterns; and
- identify factors making an effective presentation
7.2 Skills: Students will be able to:

- fluently deliver a presentation in public;


- participate in discussion and teamwork;
- have critical thinking and problem solving skills; and
- improve language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing
7.3 Attitude: Students should:

- be aware of the importance of presenting skills in business;


- have confidence and flexibility in solving problems arising in presentation;
- be aware of careful preparation and regular practice to have an effective presentation.

8. Course Description:

The course is aimed at meeting students’ needs such as studying, teaching, communicating at
work. The course consists of 6 units which help students to practice and improve presenting
skills in English, including:
(i) steps of making a presentation;
(ii) techniques in presentation;
(iii) presenting language;
(iv) using body language in presentation; and
(v) asking and answering discussion questions.
Learning methods

- In each class, students practice in pairs/groups, using presenting skills in English and
knowledge for each section of a presentation, which helps them become more confident
in the end-of-course presentation.
- Each student must prepare his/her own presentation on a business topic.
- After each presentation, students receive feedback from their classmates and teacher in
order to enhance their strengths and improve their weaknesses.
- Students take part in giving comments and asking questions about the presentation, which
helps them practice listening comprehension about different topics and gradually be able
to assess what a good presentation would be like.

9. Performance Requirements: Students are required to


- Attend class regularly;
- Complete homework and class assignments;
- Participate in class discussion and other activities.
