TENTATIVE SYLLABUS – EFFECTIVE PRESENTATION – 8 CLASSES

Objectives:
On completing the course,

Students will be able to use common Business English vocabulary in oral communication
and

Students will be able to make clear, well-organized presentations in front of audience by


demonstrating important skills such as structuring information, using an appropriate language
style, using visual aids, adopting the right body language, using effective linkers, connectors,
graphs and charts, emphasizing and minimizing information and converting written language
to spoken language.

Contents
Students read academic materials on business topics.

Students learn Business English vocabulary.

Students make presentations on business topics based on their study of assigned reading
materials.

Assessment

Attendance: 10% (completion of reading and home assignments, preparing for and
attending classes)
Mid-term Test: 30% (listening test)
Final Test: 60% (Group Presentation)

Requirements for students


Must read the textbook and prepare for the lessons in advance
Must have a brand-new notebook, pens, pencils, and see-through pens
Work in groups

Final test (Group Presentation)


1. Grouping: 4 members each group with one leader (the number is subject to change depending on the
number of students in the class)
2. Process:
- Pick randomly a topic in Business English Handbook – you can make changes – creativity is
highly encouraged
- Prepare for slides (slides must be printed out for teacher’s reference on the day of presentation)
- You may contact the teacher during your preparation
3. Assessment:
- Time: no longer than12 minutes of presentation + 5 minutes of Q&A
- This will be marked based on both group and individual performance (marking criteria will be
announced 2 weeks before the presentation)
- All members must be present on the presentation day and contribute to the whole group. Anyone
who did not contribute to the group must be notified to the teacher during your preparation for the
presentation and will not be marked for the Final Test
