Displacement Curves

A displacement curve is one from which the displacement of the ship at any particular draft can be
found, and vice versa. The draft scale is plotted on the vertical axis (x axis) and the scale
of displacements on a horizontal axis (y axis). As a general rule the largest possible scale should be used
to ensure reasonable accuracy.

It is quite unnecessary in most cases to start the scale from zero as the information will only be required
for drafts between the light and load displacements (known as the boot-topping area).

TPC curves

When constructing a TPC curve the TPCs are plotted against the corresponding drafts. It is usually more
convenient to plot the drafts on the vertical axis and the TPCs on the horizontal axis.
