NLL Load Breakdown
NLL Load Breakdown
Notes
1. The purpose of the following load breakdown is to provide preliminary loadings,
such that the initial design of the system required for bearing replacement can be
developed. It is envisaged that further amendments will be required as the design
process evolves with the Temporary Works Contractor;
2. Two iterations with different articulations have been provided:
Iteration 1. Use of guided, fixed and free bearings
Iteration 6. Use of elastomerics (Type 1.1 in accordance with BS 1337-1). A
shear stiffness of 30kN/mm has been assumed initially. The TWD shall confirm this
design parameter if Iteration 6 is going to form the adopted design for the
temporary articulation of the structure. The structure is highly sensitive to this value
and therefore this can further amend the quoted values in the load breakdown
tables below
3. All CS454 Load Combinations have been applied. 40t (Normal Traffic) loading
in accordance with ALL Model 1 (i.e. no SV loading during the construction phase);
4. ULS partial safety factors have been included as per Table A.1 of CS454;
5. The values quoted are not for construction purposes at present and are to be
confirmed throughout the remainder of the detailed design process.
6. The jacking location assumed is on the crosshead at the abutment and 5m at
the pier locations. See attached sketches for articulation layout.
7. Atkins are still developing a design which permits a 2.15m working area, 1.85m
scaffold plus 0.3m additional area for the structure. As previously outlined, this will
require the installation of transverse steelwork etc which will amend the load
distribution through the structure (and therefore shall be considered via an updated
schedule when the TWD has been developed. In addition, the articulations shown
have been developed as a guide for Freyssinet to undertake the TWD, and require
further checks from a PWD perspective to ensure that the deck passes
serviceability checks, whilst also ensuring that any proposed permanent re-
articulation works for the superstructure and substructure - All of these checks are
currently outstanding.
