ENG 202 Technical Reports and Business Writing


Semester Assignment: Business Proposal

Assignment:
This is the semester assignment for ENG 202. It is an essential part of the course as it
incorporates knowledge and understanding of technical report and business writing. Students
should be able to read, analyze and research technical reports and documents. Students should
be able to read and critically analyze data and produce reports through multiple drafts.

Background:
Technical writing has many functions in Business life. You are asked to research a business idea
that you would like to propose to your manager, CEO for a new company, or a totally new
business venture. This assignment aims to support students in their academic life by providing
tools that they can use not only while at university but in their overall career/life.

Instructions:
Students can do this proposal in groups up to 5. This assignment should not be done
individually.
Students should produce a proposal of 2000 words, reflecting on the sections provided below:
1. Title
2. Table of contents
3. Cover Letter
4. Executive Summary
5. Proposal and solutions
6. Market Analysis and Marketing Plan
7. Financial proposal and graph
8. Testimonials
The proposal must be genuine (it will be checked for plagiarism), research based (using APA 7).
Each section to be at least 300 words (except title and table of contents) and each part
developed fairly equally, except otherwise justified.

Grades:
Group grades will be awarded for the proposal. Rubrics will be used for the assessment of the
assignment.
Drafts and Deadlines:
The first draft of the report will be written in class. Students will be asked to bring a device in
order to brainstorm ideas, draft paragraphs, and start their first draft. The following dates need
to be followed:

Draft 1: 01/11/2023

Final Draft: 23/11/2023

For any late submissions a 5% penalty will be applied daily on the full mark awarded on the
paper. Reports should be submitted on LMS. Reports will not be accepted on email, they will
receive a 0 grade.

Students can ask questions during class, over email, or during office hours. Students should
abide by the deadlines set for this assignment. The proposal will be checked for plagiarism and

official YU policies will be enforced.
