1.1 SENSOR FIXED WITH INTERMEDIATE BASE
For the correct installation of the sensor in the asset, the tools and materials indicated in Figure 1.1 on page 4
are required.
English
Due to different constructive characteristics of the gearboxes and gear motors, an intermediate base was set
as the standard installation element. The preferred positions adopted for the Gear Scan are on the flat sides of
the side of the gearboxes/gearmotors, with the top of the sensor indicating towards the direction of the engine.
The values for the base fixating dimensions are indicated in the tables on Figure 2.1 on page 5, Figure 2.2
on page 6 and Figure 2.3 on page 7 for reducers of the COAXIAL, VERTIMAX and CONIMAX family,
respectively. The Gear Scan positioning is taken for dimension X from the face on the engine-side, for the YA
dimension from the face at the top, and for the YB dimension from the lowest face at the bottom. These values
are merely indicated, so there is a tolerance around 10 % of the quota value for any deviations. If the sensor
cannot be secured to the specified region, consult technical support.
ATTENTION!
For the installation of the Gear Scan on assets not covered by this manual or from other manufacturers,
consult WEG on our support channel: www.weg.net/wegmotorscan.

3.2 HOW TO PREPARE THE SURFACE, APPLY THE ADHESIVE, BOND THE BASE AND
FIX THE SENSOR
English
1. Before starting the process of applying the adhesive to the surface where the intermediate base will be glued,
make sure that the equipment/asset is not connected to the electrical power and that the surface is not hot or
dirty with substances that make the following step difficult. If necessary, clean the surface with detergent and
water before the next step.
2. Using fine sandpaper, remove the paint only from the surface/area on which the base will be glued. It is not
recommended to place the adhesive directly on the paint, as it may not adhere properly to the paint and take off easily.
3. Clean the surface by removing paint residues and other particles from the sanding process and apply the
adhesive as recommended by the manufacturer.
4. Take care of the amount of adhesive, as excess may enter the hole of the intermediate base and make it difficult
to fix the screw.
5. After applying the adhesive and gluing the base, allow the assembly to dry for a period of 24 hours before fixing
the Gear Scan sensor on the base.
6. After drying/curing the adhesive for 24 h, it is recommended to apply a thin layer of anticorrosive protective
material over the whole set (adhesive and base) and especially on the region where the paint was removed.
Anticorrosive protectionist with salt spray test greater than 500 h is recommended.
7. Finally, screw the sensor onto the base following the guidelines already set out in this manual. The procedure
is shown in Figure 3.6 on page 10 as an example.
