The Pesticide Manual,

The 12th Edition of the Pesticide Manual with 812
main entries maintains the high standard of the previous
editions, as a standard reference for products used in
crop protection and against public health pests. Appear-
ing 3 yrs after the previous edition, the revised edition has
40 new synthetic molecules plus more information on
a wider range of pheromones. Important bio-pesticides
are included now despite the separate Biopesticide Man-
ual also published by the BCPC. An important aspect of
the 12th edition is the coverage of ecotoxicological degra-
dation and environmental data to comply with the re-
quirements of European and USA EPA regulations. New
classi"cation codes from the Herbicide and Fungicide
Resistance Action Committees are presented and also the
drinking water guidelines from the World Health Organ-
isation and carcinogenicity classes allocated by the Inter-

national Agency for Research on Cancer. The Directory
of Companies now includes Web pages and email ad-
dresses. Even with the additions, this edition is over 300
pages shorter due to a more compact layout. Apart from
the Manual, the text is also available as a CD at C200 or
C320 if two updates are included. The CD version, which
includes a much larger number of trade names and more
information on recently superseded substances, allows
users to undertake complex searches with downloading of
chemical structure graphics. It also provides direct links to
manufacturers and other crop protection websites.
Thus this world compendium continues to be indis-
pensable to all manufacturers and others who play an
active role in crop protection.
