ESci 122n – Computer-Aided Drafting
2nd Semester AY 2022-2023

LESSON
Architectural Drawings
In this lesson, the student will learn to do the following:
1. Creating Walls
2. Creating Openings and Doors
3. Creating Kitchen Fixtures
4. Creating Bathroom Fixtures
5. Adding Furniture using Blocks
6. Adding windows
7. Creating grid lines
8. Adding Dimensions

Drawing output on this lesson:

FLOOR PLAN
Drawing procedures:

 “Launch” AutoCAD
 “Select” [acad.dwt] template.
 “Type” UNITS and “press” Enter
 “Select” [Architectural] on the Type Tab
 “Change” the Precision to [0-01/16]
 “Set” the Insertion Scale to [Inches]
 “Click” [OK]

 “Turn off” the Gridlines


 “Turn On” the ORTHOMODE and OBJECT SNAP
 “Draw” the Walls using the following command:
 Line
 Offset
 Trim
 “Draw” a rectangle with a dimension of 412” × 338”
 “Offset” the rectangle inwards with a distance of 6”
 “Explode” the two rectangles

 Outer WALL

 Inner WALL or Partition

 “Offset” the following lines with its equivalent distance

 “Trim” the lines as shown


on the drawing

 Door Slot

 Use “Offset” command to create the following lines

 “Trim” the lines to create the Door slot

 Creation of Door

 Go to Door slot in Master’s Bedroom


 “Draw” the door using a rectangle with the dimension of 1” by 32”
 “Draw” the door swing using arc (Start-Center-End) command

 “Mirror” the Door to the opposite room using the reference point as shown in the figure

 “Copy” the door at the Bathroom to the Common Room as shown in the figure

 “Rotate” the Door 90 degrees

 Draw a “line” connecting the door slot.

 Draw a “Rectangle” with a dimension of 1” by 3’ with a specified corner as shown

 Draw the door swing arc using “Start-center-end” arc command

 “Mirror” the door with the reference point as the midpoint of the line
 “Delete” the line

 Draw a “Rectangle” with a dimension of 3’-1” and 2” on the midpoint of the wall.

 “Explode” the rectangle


 “Offset” the right-end side and left-end side of the rectangle with a distance of 2”
 Draw a “Line” connecting the two offset lines

 “Move” the sliding door downward with a distance of 1/32”


 “Duplicate” the sliding door at the opposite midpoint of the wall

 Creation of Kitchen Fixtures

 “Zoom window” at the kitchen area


 Draw the follow objects with its parameters

 Draw the sink with the given dimensions.


 Draw the sink hole diameter of 3” and 4”

 “Zoom window” the Bathroom Area


 Draw the following fixtures with the given dimensions

 Draw the “Ellipse” 1 with a major axis


of 9” and minor axis of 6”
 Draw the “Ellipse” 3 with a major axis
of 10” and minor axis of 5”
 Draw the “Ellipse” 2 with a major axis
of 11.5” and minor axis of 6.5” with its
center at the Ellipse 3
 “Move” the “Ellipse” 2 upward with
the distance of 1” from the center of
Ellipse 3

 Adding of Furniture thru Blocks

 Type “DC” and press enter. This opens the Design Center palette
 On the Design center palette, click the “HOME” button

 On the folder list, follow the path: AutoCAD 2023 > Sample > en-us > Design Center > Home- Space Planner.dwg

 “Double click” the blocks button. This will open the sample blocks for the space planner

 Drag the Bed- queen and the Dining set to the drawing area and close the Design Center Palette
 Position the Bed and the Dining Set as shown on the drawing
 Draw a rectangle with a dimension of 7’-6” by 2’ -3.5” as the cabinet

 Adding of Windows

 Use the “Line” command to draw the window symbol.

 Go to Block Definition panel on the Insert Ribbon


 Click Create Block. A dialog will appear.
 Type “Window” on the Name box
 Click select objects button
 Select the window symbol and press enter
 Click pick point button
 Select the lower left corner of the window.
 On the dialog, put check on the Open in Block
Editor option and Click OK. This will create the
block and opens it in Block Editor ribbon and the
Authoring Palletes tab will appear.

 On the Authoring Palletes, click the Parameters tab and select the Linear
command.

 Click the endpoints of the horizontal line

 On the Authoring Palletes, click the Actions tab and select the Stretch command.

 Select the Distance 1 parameter


 Click on the right endpoint of the horizontal line. This defines the point
that can used to stretch the block.

 Create a window around the selected endpoint.

 Select the horizontal and right vertical line, and press


Enter. This defines the elements that can be stretch.

 On the Block Editor ribbon, go to Open/Save panel, and click Test Block. The Test Block window will appear.
 Select the Block, and click on the arrow grip. Drag the pointer to stretch the Block.

 Click the Close Test Block button.


 On the Open/Save panel, click Save Block button.
 Click Close Block Editor button.

 On the Insert ribbon, go to Block panel, and click Insert Block


 Click the Window block and navigate the cursor on the drawing area.
 Stretch and position the window based on the figures given

 Create Layers

 Provide Layers on the following objects:


✓ Wall ✓ Grid Bubbles
✓ Window
✓ Door
✓ Furniture
✓ Fixtures
✓ Counters
✓ Grid

 Creating Counters

 Using Line, draw the Counters with the following dimensions

 Adding Grid Lines

 Load DASH Line on the Line Type at the Properties panel.

 Activate Grid layer of the Layer panel and change the Line type to Dash line.
 Use Line command to draw the Grid Lines as show in the drawing

 Creating Grid Bubbles

 Activate Grid Bubbles layer on the Layers panel


 Draw a Circle of 12” diameter anywhere on the
drawing area
 On the Insert ribbon, go to Block Definition panel
and click Define Attributes

 On the Attribute Definition dialog, type-in GRIDBUBBLE in the Tag box
and select Middle Center on the Justification option box.
 Type-in 6” in the Text Height box and click OK.
 Select the center point of the circle. The Attribute text will be place at the
center

 On the Insert ribbon, go to Block Definition panel and click Create Block.
 Type-in VGridbubble in the Name box and click Select Objects button.
 Click the circle and the gridbubble text and press enter,
 Check the Pick point option under the Base point section.
 Select the lower quadrant point of the circle to define the base point of the block.

 Uncheck the Open in Block Editor option and click OK.


 On the Insert ribbon, go to Block panel, click Insert block and click VGridbubble.
 Select the endpoint of the vertical grid line and the Edit Attribute dialog will pop-up.
 Type-in A in the GRIDBUBBLE box and click OK.
 Do the same to other vertical grid lines as shown.

 Create another block with name Horizontal Grid Bubble. Make sure that you select the right
quadrant point of the circle as the base point.

 Insert the horizontal grid bubbles as shown in the drawing.

 Provide Dimensions on the drawing as shown
