imbedded throughout the text and a
lesson quiz at the end of the
workbook. Answers to ali quiz
questions are provided on the quiz
feedback page following the lesson
quiz.

OBJECTIVES

1. State the boldface emergency engine sF~utdown procedure in

writing and without the use of reference material.

2. State the boidface CTC emergency shutdown procedure in

writing and without the use of reference material. [
3. State the boidface fuselage fire/smoke and fume eiimination
emergency procedure in writing and without the use of
reference material.

E
INTRODUCTION You will be required to state and perform the
applicabie boldface emergency procedures during
your quaiification flight evaluation. More
[
importantly, you must be able at ali times to
properly accomplish the procedure during actual
aircraft emergencies as directed by your aircraft
commander. This lesson will be a review of those
procedures and will allow you to practice the rote -

memory required, to prepare you for your flight

evaluation.

ENGINE We will precede our discussion ot the boldiace

SHUTDOWN engine shutdown procedure with a review ai the
CONDITIONS conditions which may, at the pilot’t discretion,
require an engine to be shut down. Ii any ci the
following conditions occur in fiight ar on the
ground and thespecified corrective action does not
alieviate the condition, engine shutdown will be at
the pilot’s discretion, depending on flight
conditions and the situation.

a. Generator failure (airplanes without generator

disconnect)

b. Engine fire

c. Turbine overheat

d. Nacelie overheat

e. Uncontroilable power

f. Certain propelier iualfunctions

g. An uncontroliable rise in turbine iniet

temperature

h. An uncontroliable drop in ou pressure

i. An uncontroliable rise in oU temperature

j. Unusual vibration ar roughness

k. Throttle contrai faiiure
When it is necessary te continue operation ei an
engine with any ai these conditions present, in the
interest ei safety ai the aircraft and crew,
operate the engine with extreme caution and at the
minimum power required.

BOLDFACE The procedure for engine shutdown (Figures 1 and 2)

ENGINE consists of critical and non—critical items. The
SHUTDOWN criticai items are in boldface type and must be
PROCEDURE committed to inemory. They must be performed
immediateiy to avoid aggravating the emergency and
causing injury or damage. The non—critical items
are those that contribute to an orderiy sequence of
events and will be performed with reference to the
appropriate checklist.

Step 1 of the engine shutdown procedure is to place

the CONDITION LEVER to FEATHER. This is done by
the copilot on coinmand of the piiot. It must be
piaced ali the way into the detent. To stress the
importance of making sure the lever is in the
detent, the foiiowing Caution has been impiernented:

CAUTION
When puliing a condition lever to
FEATHERJ puli it ali the way to the
detent to assure the propelier is
fuliy feathered when the engine fuei
is shut off. If the iever is ieft
at midposition, and NTS is
inoperative, an engine decoupling is
possibie.

Step 2 is to PULL the FIRE HANULE if a fire,

naceile overheat, or visible fiuid ieak is
indicated. This step will aiso be accomplished by
the copilot. The indications can be a fite warning
iight, naceile overheat light, or a visibie fite or
smoke on the engine. Remember, the cockpit
indications may not always work. This stepaiso
arms the Agent Discharge Switch.

Step 3 is to DISCHARGE the fire extinguishing

AGENT. Once again, this step will be acconipiished
by the copiiot. This step may not be required if
the fite or nacelie overheat condition no longer
exists af ter the fite handie has been puiied. If
the agent is needed, remember the foiiowing
Caution.

BOLOFACE The botdface GTC emergency shutdown procedure

E
GTC EMERGENCY (Figure 3) is for emergencies during ground
SHUTDOWN operation of the CTC. Although the procedure is
PROCEDURE the responsibiiity of the flight engineer, there
are times when he may be absent troin the fiight
station. Due to the c1o~e proximity ofi the GTC
Fire Handie and Agent Discharge Switch to the
pilots’ seats, it is imperative that the boldface
steps be conuuitted to memory by both pilots.

Step 1 of the GTC emergency shutdown is to PULL the

FIRE HANDLE. This wili shut off the fuei and cii,
and arm the Agent Discharge Switch. [
Step 2 of the procedure calis for the AGENT to be
DISCHARGED for tire. The following Warning,
Caution, and Note appiy to step 2.

WARNING

If condition persists, discharge the

remaining bottle.

CAUTION E
Do not hoid the agent discharge

do so may cause the FIRE EXT circuit
breaker to open. [
NOTE

The agent shouid be discharged when

an indication continues after the
E
tire handie has been puiled, or if -

any other indication or malfunction

is suspected which requires tire
extinguisher agent.

Step 3 is the “Cleanup” step which is non—critical

and need not be committed to memory.
