Symptom
A. You want to activate the Actual Cost Component Split for a plant which was already productive for
Material Ledger or
B. The Actual Cost Component Split is active in your system and you want to additionally activate the
Auxiliary Cost Component Split or you want to change the Cost Component Structure
"Image/data in this KBA is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any

Environment
Resolution
• For symptom A), check the sequence of steps to be followed, being the current period n:
1. Carry out all the material postings (goods movements,...) and the CO period-end closing tasks like
settlements for all the previous periods.
It cannot be ensured that after the activation, the postings to previous periods can be done without
problems. You might find errors such as MLCCS099 or C+000 as the cost component split data will
only be created for the current period, the previous period and the last period of previous year.
For open production orders, the recommendation is to close them before initializing the actual cost
component split, as it will lead to problems for goods movements for the orders from periods without
actual cost component split being active. If that is not possible, you have to run the first settlement just
after initializing the actual cost component split, using the special treatment option "S" (Settlement
according to standard price cost component split) from report MLCCS_KO88_TREATMENT. Check the
explanations in the note 632752.
2. Roll the MM period to the next period n+1 with MMPV.
3. Release the standard cost estimates or the prices for the period n+1.
4. Now you may decide the moment to activate the Actual Cost Component Split:
a) Just after opening the MM period and releasing of prices, before any material posting.
b) After the closing in Material Ledger (CKMLCP).
5. Go to the Customizing and Activate the Actual Cost Component Split for the plant:
a) Just after opening the MM period and releasing of prices, before any material posting:
The cost component split for the standard price is created in the previous period, either transfered
from the cost estimate, or created on the cost component corresponding to the consumption cost
element (simple split).
The post closing step in CKMLCP will move the cost component split from the previous to the
current period.
This option a) is recommended if cost estimates with plan cost component split data are available
for the materials in the plant.
• For symptom B), proceed as explained in the KBA 1869753 and the note 434873, making sure whether
the change in the Cost Component Structure is "Controlled" or not.
In case of a new released cost estimate, the system will use this split for the cost component split of
the standard price on the current period.
For the previous period and the last period of the previous year, the sytem will create a simple cost
component split for the cost component split of the standard price, according to the cost component
derived from the consumption cost element.
Remarks:
• The cost component split is created for the price differences in the 3 mentioned periods: current,
previous and last period of the previous year, according to the cost component split of the standard
price.
• The special treatment option "S" from report MLCCS_KO88_TREATMENT has to be used in order
settlement, for the orders created before the activation of the Actual Cost Component Split.
• The cost component split is created for the materials with price determination 3.
• Before activating the Actual Cost Component Split, check that the previous periods have been closed
in the Material Ledger in order to avoid errors in closing old periods due to missing cost component
split data.
• Double-check the notes 434873 and 1869753 concerning any change in the Actual Cost Component
structure.
