We are exposed to blue light every single day
What is Blue Light?
• Blue light is a light which has a wavelength of between approximately Near IR
380nm and 420nm.
• It has a very short wavelength, and so produces a higher amount of Visible Light
energy.
Harmful blue light penetrates the
macular pigments and harms the retina
Blue Light (380-420nm)
Retina UVA (315-380nm)
UV Light
UVB (280-315nm)
Filtered by lens or cornea

Digital electronic devices emit blue light that can cause eye
strain and may lead to eye problems over time.

Impacts from the blue light
Almost all visible blue light passes through the cornea and lens and reaches the retina.
This light may affect vision and could prematurely age the eyes. Early research shows
that too much exposure to blue light could lead to:

Eyes vision may subsequently lead to dry eye disease (DED).

• DED can affect adults who are always facing

the screen working from home as well as
children who are exposed to longer screen time
via e-learning especially during lock down
period.

Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)

• It affects the middle part of your vision and

happens when aging causes damage to the
macula — the part of the eye that controls
sharp, straight-ahead vision.

• It usually affects people in their 50s and 60s.

• A progressive disease.

Children are at risk of developing eye problems

• ONE in 10 children in Malaysia has an

undiagnosed vision problem that can lead
to chronic headaches and learning difficulties.

• If left untreated, it could lead to permanent

visual impairment and even blindness.

• According to a recent study,

children’s eyes absorb more blue

Lutein & Zeaxanthin

• Lutein and zeaxanthin are the only dietary carotenoids
