A PRESENTATION TO FIND THE MOST SUITABLE TOOL, FOR FULFILLING A POTENTIAL OPPORTUNITY

SCOPE- MAKING TRIVAGO’S IMAGES AND MEDIA


CONTENT SEARCH READY

• Solution- Images need to be tagged with hashtags. Customer will see those hashtags along with each
choices, i.e., Hotels on offer.
• Challenge- A. Identify which Hashtag should be added with what images.
B. Ensure that all images are tagged with multiple Hashtags, as appropriate.

OPTIONS

• Build own AI image tagging platform.


• Stick to manually tagging images via labour providers.
• Subscribe to specific service providers, like AWS, Microsoft or smaller partners.

ATTRIBUTES BY WHICH WE WILL DECIDE.

• ROI/ Initial cost- As the required solution will not immediately impact the revenue, and it will be more
towards an auxiliary service. Initial Cost will be crucial to determine ROI. More cost means less ROI
percentage.
• Scalability/ Agile- the solution must be scalable and Agile, which can adjust cost according to peak
season and off season. We don’t want to pay the peak season cost, during the off season, when
bookings will be less.
• Core competencies and resources available in Company.

SHALL WE MAKE IT?

• Trivago brings customer and Hotels in a same place, so Customer can choose a fantastic holiday and the
Hotel will get a Customer who will provide business to them. I’m sure about that the Company’s current
technical resources are busy to maintain and manage the current infrastructure, servers, websites etc.
and they won’t be having bandwidth to develop a new AI platform. Even it is not confirmed whether
the required skill set is presently available in Company.
• If we hire Software Engineers to build this, due to heavy initial cost, ROI % will be low. Hence not
justified. It will also increase more contractual work for company, which could be avoided by better
solution.
• To me, cost of hiring a new Team will outrun the Revenue, as cost of ownership is too high. Moreover, it
is not aligned with the Company’s business interest. I’ll not consider this path.

SHALL WE CONTINUE WITH MANUAL LABOUR?

• ROI wise Could be feasible, if we find a good deal. There are some downfalls though. There will be risk
for errors, images may be published without tagging.
• Issue of sudden non availability of resources during peak seasons.
• Not Scalable or Agile- We may be left out with insufficient resources during peak season or unutilized
resources during off season. We have to pay the agreed price throughout.
• To me, this would be a feasible solution 5-10 years back, but we have a better solution now.

SUBSCRIBE AI SERVICE AS “PAY AS YOU GO” MODEL

• We can decide cost and start low if we know Revenue won’t be great in beginning. Confirmed better
ROI percentage.
• Pricing is Agile. We can decide the computation hour as per our requirement. No need to pay extra
amount, if we are not using resource.
• Likewise, we can increase the computation hour during peak season, solves the problem of resource
management.
• Ensured quality. Less paperwork to do.
• We do not have to worry about maintenance and outages.
• I will most likely go with AWS. They have a competitive pricing, provide complete freedom to choose my
pack and edit later. Can track my usage on regular basis.
