The Life of Trees

Lots of people think that trees are fascinating. They are the biggest living things on our planet and one of
the most beautiful. Trees appear in many religions and are the inspiration for artists all over the world.
Trees are the oldest living organisms on earth. They are connected with history. The great age of trees
makes them useful for science. For example, the rings inside a tree tell us about changes in the climate.
Changes that happened thousands of years ago.

Also, scientists found out that patients in hospital get better, faster and go home quicker when there are
trees outside the windows of their rooms. Spiritual teachers say we have a lot to learn from trees: these are
strong, so we should imitate them. Trees absorb a lot of energy from the sun – more than any other living
thing. And some people think that you can feel this energy when you put your arms around a tree and stay
there for some minutes.

Many people believe this 'tree-hugging' is good for stress, makes you sleep better and helps you feel more
positive and calm. And more and more people are doing it. The Irish politician Gerry Adams loves trees. He
often hugs trees because they give him calm and energy.

We all know that trees are essential for the environment and the survival of our planet. Perhaps they have
even more to offer us in the future.
