INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The complex of traditional sports as an architectural thesis topic aims to explore the design and development
of a sports facility that integrates local cultural practices and traditional sports. The project seeks to create a
sustainable and inclusive space that promotes physical activity and preserves the cultural heritage of a
community.

NEED FOR STUDY

 Preservation of cultural heritage: Traditional sports are often deeply rooted in a community's cultural
heritage and can provide a way to preserve that heritage through architecture. By designing a complex
that incorporates traditional sports, you can help to maintain the cultural significance of these sports
and ensure that they are passed down to future generations.
 Promotion of physical activity: Traditional sports can be an effective way to promote physical activity,
particularly in areas where modern sports facilities may not be available. By designing a complex that
includes traditional sports, you can help to promote physical activity and improve public health.
 Sustainable design: Traditional sports often rely on natural materials and sustainable practices, which
can provide a model for sustainable design. By incorporating traditional sports into an architectural
complex, you can demonstrate how sustainable design principles can be applied in modern contexts.
 Community engagement: Traditional sports are often deeply connected to the local community and can
provide opportunities for social interaction and community building. By designing a complex that
includes traditional sports, you can create a space that fosters community engagement and interaction.

AIM AND OBJECTIVE

 The aim of exploring a complex of traditional sports is to create a functional and aesthetically pleasing
facility that honours and promotes the cultural heritage of traditional sports.

 The objective of the project would be to create a facility that serves as a hub for traditional sports,
where athletes can train and compete, and where spectators can come to learn and appreciate the
beauty and cultural significance of these sports.

SCOPE AND THRUST

The scope of a thesis on the complex of traditional sports as an architectural topic is vast and multifaceted. It
involves the exploration of cultural, social, and historical aspects of traditional sports and their significance to the
community. It also requires an understanding of the design principles and functional requirements of sports
facilities, as well as the integration of sustainable and accessible design practices and the thrust is working with
sustainable building materials.
THRUST AREA - The Neo-Dravidian architectural style, rooted in South India, embraces modern elements while
retaining traditional Dravidian features. Employing this style for a traditional sports arena thesis would infuse
cultural richness with contemporary functionality. Arches, intricate carvings, and stepped forms could adorn the
arena, harmonizing tradition and modern sports infrastructure, creating a unique and inspiring space.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, the traditional sports complex as an architectural thesis topic presents a unique opportunity to
explore the intersection of culture, history, and design. Through thoughtful consideration of the site, context, and
programmatic needs, architects can create spaces that not only facilitate physical activity but also preserve and
celebrate cultural traditions. Such projects can serve as important landmarks within communities and contribute
to the overall well-being of their users.
