1. How did your project interpret the theme Humanity: A
viewpoint- Explain your personal theme/approach. Human Being needs basic necessities to survive, one being shelter/homes to live in. When I think of homes, I think about how the interior and how you can learn a lot about a person based on their environment, it a way for a person to express themselves in their own safe place. 2. How did your secondary research help you? Artist exploring similar themes, designs, style, context? For my secondary research, I explored three different artists. Two were interior designers (Elsie De Wolfe and Billy Baldwin) and the other one was a textile designer (Lucienne Day). The two-interior designer help me grasp an understanding 3. How did your primary research from galleries helps you? How did you use it? I went to the Whitworth Museum to get some primary research however I couldn’t find a lot of interior design artwork. I did find a lot of textiles artwork which really helped me. It help me realise that people still use textile to produce artwork about what is happening for example the artist Bharti Parmar made an embroidery piece about COVID19 4. What did you learn about the topics as you went along – give examples. I Learnt about a lot about the three different artists, especially about Elsie De Wolfe and how she was the first-ever female artist and also that interior designers can have mentees, for example, Billy Baldwin had a mentee who later co-founded an interior design firm with another interior designer. 5. What were the biggest problems you had with the project and how did you overcome them? Whist working on my final project I worked with wax and ink for the first time because of this I accidentally poured a bit too much on one of the boxes however it dried I got advice from my teacher to get a fork and try to make little designs in the big blobs of wax. 6. Were there any problems you couldn’t solve- if so, why? Before I choose to make my final project about textile, I want to do four/three little model on interior designers inspired from different eras, but I didn’t know the software as the teacher that was going to help me had covid therefore I had to change my final project mid-way. 7. How did you manage your time? What helped you keep on track? I felt as if I could have managed my time better, this was because I thought I had more time than I really did. The teachers and my friend really helped a lot with keeping me on track. 8. Outline any ways in which you could have improved your project if you had the time? I would have tried to work out the software by myself. I could have done this by watching tutorials on YouTube. Another thing is that I could have researched a modern-day textile designer and possibly have tried to do a quick sketch or made a zoomed-in version of their work. 9. Review your project proposal- What worked well and what didn’t? As I stated in question 6 that my final project was going to be drastically different than it is now because of this project proposal had to be changed. In my project proposal, I was going to research about this interior designer (Mr Kate) that is a YouTube, especially since YouTube is one of the most used platforms. Using Mr Kate as an interior word help me understand the current trends in interior design. I was also going to find some interesting furniture to sketch in different mediums such as colour pencils, charcoal, mark making and monoprint. 10. How did your experiments with different materials and techniques go? How did they help you to develop your designs? I used a lot of materials such as wax and ink to make my final project, the ink made the piece colourful and bright whereas the wax stop the piece from being obnoxious by stopping the ink from going to some places, therefore making just enough colour (on the piece) to the point where it is not clashing with the other colours 11. Did you give enough time to continue the sketchbook evaluation? I did get given enough time to complete my sketchbook evaluation and I believe that it is quite good.
