Collaborative robots, or cobots for short, are the new big things in Asia. According to a
report by Markets&Markets, cobots outperformed every other industrial robots to become the
fastest-growing segment of industrial automation, with most of it growth concentrated in Asia
Pacific. True to its name, cobots are significant because they can collaborate and interact safely
with humans in a workspace. As a result, cobots are preferable to other industrial robots, especially
in developed countries where manufacturing and assembly plants are located. Take Singapore as
an example. With a density of about 918 industrial robots per 10,000 employees, using cobots
could increase efficiency by a lot. It is therefore imperative that Asian top economies, such as
Singapore, South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan, to push for robot installations and move towards
automation by utizing cobots. However, it must be noted that cobots are not replacing human
workes, but are only assisting them in their task. For example. A cobot can assist a worker in
welding by keeping the welding device at exactly the right distance from the material, while the
welder is doing the welding itself. Consequently, workers can rest assure and not worry over their
jobs. After all, humans will always have a place in the manufacturing line.
