A differential equation is a mathematical statement containing one or more derivatives.

Differential
equations have a variety of uses in daily life. In this article, we are going to study the Application of
Differential Equations, the different types of differential equations like Ordinary Differential
Equations, Partial Differential Equations, linear differential equation Nonlinear differential equations,
Homogeneous Differential Equations, and Nonhomogeneous Differential Equations, Newton law of
cooling , Exponential Growth of Bacteria & Radioactivity Decay.

What is a Differential Equation?

The differential equation is the concept of Mathematics. A differential equation is an equation that
relates one or more functions and their derivatives. It involves the derivative of a function or a
dependent variable with respect to an independent variable. Population growth, spring vibration,
heat flow, radioactive decay can be represented using a differential equation.

Differential equations are used in many different fields, including physics, engineering, biology,
economics, and finance. They can be used to model a wide variety of phenomena, such as the
motion of a projectile, the spread of a disease, or the growth of a population.

Here are some specific examples of applications of differential equations:

Application Of First Order Differential Equation

In order to explain a physical process, we model it on paper using first order

differential equations. Many cases of modelling are seen in medical or engineering or
chemical processes. The three most commonly modelled systems are:

Population
In order to illustrate the use of differential equations with regard to population
problems, we consider the easiest mathematical model offered to govern the
population dynamics of a certain species.

Falling Objects
The acceleration of gravity is constant (near the surface of the

earth). So, for falling objects the rate of change of velocity is constant. {dv\over{dt}}=g
Mixing Problems
Mixing problems are an application of separable differential equations. They’re word
problems that require us to create a separable differential equation based on the
concentration of a substance in a tank

 Physics:
Differential equations are used to model the motion of objects under the
influence of forces, such as the motion of planets around the sun, the motion of electrons in an
atom, or the motion of a projectile through the air.
 Engineering:
Differential equations are used in many different engineering disciplines,
such as civil engineering, mechanical engineering, and electrical engineering. For example,
differential equations can be used to design bridges, airplanes, and electrical circuits.
 Biology:
Differential equations are used to model many biological systems, such as the
growth of populations, the spread of diseases, and the flow of blood through the body.
 Economics:
Differential equations are used to model economic systems, such as the
growth of the economy, the inflation rate, and the interest rate.
 Finance:
Differential equations are used to model financial markets, such as the stock
market and the bond market.

Here are some specific examples of how differential equations are used in these fields:

 Physics:
 Differential equations are used to model the motion of a projectile, such as a baseball or a
rocket.
 Differential equations are used to model the motion of a planet around the sun.
 Differential equations are used to model the flow of air around an airplane wing.
 Engineering:
 Differential equations are used to design bridges, buildings, and other structures.
 Differential equations are used to design airplanes, cars, and other vehicles.
 Differential equations are used to design electrical circuits and electronic devices.
 Biology:
 Differential equations are used to model the growth of populations, such as the human
population or the population of a certain species of animal.
 Differential equations are used to model the spread of diseases, such as the flu or the
measles.
 Differential equations are used to model the flow of blood through the body.
 Economics:
 Differential equations are used to model the growth of the economy.
 Differential equations are used to model the inflation rate.
 Differential equations are used to model the interest rate.
 Finance:
 Differential equations are used to model the stock market.
 Differential equations are used to model the bond market.
 Differential equations are used to model the price of options and other financial
derivatives.

Differential equations are a powerful tool that can be used to model a wide variety of
phenomena. They are essential for solving many problems in science, engineering, and other
fields.

Example:

One example of how differential equations are used in the real world is in the design of airplanes.
Engineers use differential equations to model the airflow around an airplane wing. This
information can then be used to design a wing that is efficient and produces the desired amount
of lift.

Another example is in the field of medicine. Doctors use differential equations to model the
spread of diseases through a population. This information can then be used to develop strategies
to prevent and control the spread of diseases.

Differential equations are also used in many other fields, such as chemistry, geology, and
computer science.

Modeling the spread of a disease :The spread of a disease through a population can be
modeled using a differential equation. The equation describes how the number of infected people
changes over time. The equation takes into account factors such as the rate of transmission of the
disease, the rate of recovery from the disease, and the size of the population.

One simple model of the spread of a disease is the SIR model. The SIR model divides the
population into three groups: susceptible, infected, and recovered. The susceptible group are
people who are not infected but can be infected. The infected group are people who are infected
with the disease. The recovered group are people who have recovered from the disease and are
now immune.

The SIR model can be represented by the following system of differential equations:

dS/dt = -βSI
dI/dt = βSI - γI
dR/dt = γI

where:

 S is the number of susceptible people

 I is the number of infected people
 R is the number of recovered people
 β is the rate of transmission of the disease
 γ is the rate of recovery from the disease

This system of differential equations can be solved using numerical methods. The solution of the
equations can be used to predict how the number of infected people will change over time.

Differential equations are a powerful tool that can be used to model a wide variety of
phenomena. They are essential for solving many problems in science, engineering, and other
fields.
