Dear Herron Families and Students,

We had a very full week this week and are ready to keep the momentum going. A special thank
you to all parents who volunteered with Open House and those who donated treats for our
guests. We proudly welcomed over 300 families and are excited about welcoming many of those
scholars to the Herron family in the fall.

Parent Teacher Conferences were held on Thursday and Friday. It was lovely getting to overhear
some very productive conversations as families and teachers are working together to help the
students achieve their personal best. Thank you for participating and we look forward to
continuing this important relationship!

We have just two weeks before Thanksgiving break and don’t anticipate things letting up a
minute before then. Students are encouraged to keep on top of their studies and to make getting
to class on time a priority. We have seen so much growth in our scholars this semester and
cannot wait to see what additional learning is in store these last few weeks of the quarter.

As always, we are all responsible for creating safe spaces for our students and for keeping our
school safe. If you see something, please say something. We have an anonymous tip line
available on our website (https://www.herronclassical.org/families/tip-line) or you can reach
out directly to administration at ahs@herronhighschool.org. Thank you to the families and
students who have already used this tool! Your efforts have allowed us to be proactive as an
administrative team!

Have a safe week and we will see you in the hallways!

REMINDER: Before and After School Concerns

As a reminder, we have staff hired to supervise students before school starting at 7:30 am and
after school until 5:30. We encourage all families to utilize this free service in lieu of allowing
students to hang out at local businesses.
Recently an influx of students, specifically some making some bad decisions, have caused a
strain on our relationship with these businesses.
Parents, we need your help. Please drop off and pick up students on Herron’s campus each day.
We want to ensure the safety of our students from when they leave the house until they return
home. If you see something, please say something to us. If you know of a conflict, please reach
out and allow us to help manage it in a safe and productive way. We must continue to work
together to ensure that student safety and learning are our top priority .

REMINDER: Drop Off/ Pick Up Traffic flow

The colored arrows denote the two different traffic patterns for arrival and dismissal..
From Pennsylvania, turn left into lot between Russell and Main (Red arrows)
From Talbott, you must enter the Talbott lot from the north; no left turns into Talbott lot (Gold
arrows)

No right turns out of the lots during regular drop off and pick up times. Always follow traffic
guard directions!

Herron High School is a closed campus; once students are on campus they must stay until they
are dismissed. Visitors must sign in at Door 1, student services.

No students should be dropped off on the street. It is incredibly unsafe for both
students and drivers. Additionally, all students should be using designated
crosswalks to approach campus. Those not following this rule will have a detention
issued.

Our faculty and staff will be out and directing traffic for both arrival and dismissal. Please follow
all directions given by them, as they are charged with keeping everyone safe.

Cars do not belong on the sidewalk or in the bike lane. Many of our students use these areas to
get to school. We ask you to respect the fact that you are driving in a school zone.
Every day parents send their precious humans to us and it is our responsibility to return them to
their families in one piece. Please help us do this.

If you see something, say something. Please reach out to ahs@herronhighschool.org or our
safety director, Steve Hoffman, if you see unsafe practices during arrival and dismissal.

REMINDER: Uniforms
All students are expected to wear the school uniform each day, unless otherwise announced.
Khakis must have the Herron logo on them. If you have ordered items from Schoolbelles
and have not yet received them, please complete this form to let us know. We will issue your
student a uniform pass (good for a 9- week grading period) that will allow them to wear
non-Herron khaki pants to school. Just a reminder that cargo pants will not work as a
substitute. Jeans (blue, white, or black and without rips or holes) are only allowed on
designated days.

REMINDER: Lockers
Students grades 9-11 received locker numbers and combinations on their schedule at schedule
pick up. If seniors would like to request a locker, please fill out this
form:https://tinyurl.com/HHSLockerRequest2023. Senior lockers will be assigned after the
first week of school.

REMINDER: Immunization and Records

Any new students (freshmen and transfer students) NEED to have their immunization records
and previous school records sent to our Registrar and Enrollment teams, this information is
vital to us in order to schedule new students for their classes appropriately. Any student with
outstanding immunizations may not be allowed to attend school unless that
student has submitted an exemption form.

Immunization records can be obtained from your child’s doctor, and faxed to us at
(317) 231-3759 (HHS) 317-926-7550 (HRHS)

‘immunization’ on our website!

REMINDER: Calendar
We are working hard to streamline our calendar of events to one location. Please look for school
wide events at this link.
https://www.herronhighschool.org/calendar

REMINDER: Technology Pick Up

Herron High School utilizes a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program. Herron High School
encourages families to provide an appropriate personal tablet or laptop; however, the school
does have a limited number of computers that will be available for rent to families unable to
provide their student with an appropriate device. All requested technology will be delivered to
students. https://tinyurl.com/HCSTechRental
REMINDER: Student Handbook
The student handbook is an excellent resource for both parents and students. Please refer to this
document for information regarding uniform requirements, behavioral expectations, attendance
policies, and a variety of other topics. If you have any questions, please reach out to an
administrator via email at ahs@herronhighschool.org.

You can access the student handbook here.
