Dear George Washington Elementary School Families,

On behalf of the staff at GWES I am happy to welcome you to the 2017-18 school year!
The new school year is well underway and its exciting to see all our students back from summer break and
eager to continue their learning. As we enter this new school year, I want to let you know that our staff will be
engaging in conversations around having a growth mindset, both for themselves and all students. We believe
that every person in this building should always be growing and learning. Despite obstacles that may arise, we
must always believe in our ability to rise above challenges and come out stronger on the other end.

We are also committed to ensuring that your child is engaged in joyful learning experiences. Our belief is that
GWES will shape its students into responsible global citizens ready to embrace opportunities for continuous
growth and leadership wherever they go. We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to
ensure our children can achieve their highest potential. We recognize that in order to be successful in school,
our children need support from both the home and school. We know a strong partnership with you will make a
great difference in your childs education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our childrens success
and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities.

If you are interested in getting involved at GWES there are many ways for you to volunteer and support
teachers and students. The first step in volunteering is to complete a parent volunteer application by visiting
the cpsparentu.org website. Parents who would like to chaperone on field trips must complete the volunteer
application. Feel free to stop by the office and ask how you could help out.

This year we gave parents an opportunity to come in and fill out emergency forms, lunch forms, pay the school
student fee and drop off school supplies before school started. Thank you to our parents who took advantage
of these check-in days. It really made for a smooth start to the school year. We ask all our parents who have
not paid the school student fee to please stop by the office as soon as possible to pay the school student fee.
The fees help pay for field trips, student planners, student subscriptions to magazines, books and other
supplies student use during the school year.

A few more things to make our year go more smoothly- please help us keep our students safe during entrance
and dismissal times. Take extra precautions if you drive and drop off children. Remember to use the
passenger door that faces the curb. Make sure you park legally; be aware of blocking driveways and garage
entrances. Also, be considerate of students and adults who might be uncomfortable around animals by keeping
pets off school grounds. Another way to help our school year go smoothly is to visit our school website-
gwashington.cps.edu, it has information you need to keep you on top of whats happening at school. Coming Soon
to our website is a link to purchase school uniforms directly through our vendor Keller Customs. Keller Kustoms
will be at the school on Tue. Sept. 19th and Wed. Sept. 20th from 2p.m. to 6 p.m. They will take
uniform orders. We will also be sharing our plan to improve our overall attendance.

Finally our school day begins at 8 a.m. Any student arriving after 8:05 must enter through the main entrance at
door 1 and receive a tardy slip. During inclement weather students line up and are supervised in the following
locations: K-3rd in the gym and 4th
-5th in the cafeteria and 6th
-8th in the annex. Help us set your child up for
success by getting him/her to school on time, ready to learn every day.

En nombre del personal de GWES, me complace darle la bienvenida al ao escolar 2017-18!

El nuevo ao escolar VA bien en suite camino y es emocionante ver a todos nuestros estudiantes de vuelta de
vacaciones de verano y ansiosos de continuar su aprendizaje. Al entrar en este nuevo ao escolar, quiero que sepas
que nuestro personal estar participando en conversaciones sobre tener una mentalidad de crecimiento, tanto para
ellos como para todos los estudiantes. Creemos que cada persona en este edificio debe estar siempre creciendo y
aprendiendo. A pesar de los obstculos que pueden surgir, siempre debemos creer en nuestra capacidad para
superar los retos y salir ms fuerte en el otro extremo.

Tambin estamos comprometidos a asegurar que sus hijos est involucrado en experiencias de aprendizaje alegres.
Nuestra creencia es que GWES formar a sus estudiantes en ciudadanos globales responsables listos para abrazar

Si usted est interesado en participar en GWES hay muchas maneras para que usted sea voluntario y apoye a
profesores y estudiantes. El primer paso en el voluntariado es completar una solicitud de voluntariado para padres
visitando el sitio web de cpsparentu.org. Los padres que deseen acompaar en excursiones deben completar la
solicitud de voluntario. Sintase libre de pasar por la oficina y pregunte cmo podra ayudar.

Este ao les dimos a los padres la oportunidad de venir y llenar formularios de emergencia, formularios de almuerzo,

padres que aprovecharon de estos das de check-in. Realmente hizo un buen comienzo para el ao escolar. Le

oficina tan pronto como sea posible para pagar la cuota. Los honorarios ayudan a pagar viajes de campo, agendas
estudiantiles, suscripciones de revistas, libros y otros suministros que los estudiantes usan durante el ao escolar.

Unas cuantas cosas ms para hacer que nuestro ao se desarrolle con ms tranquilidad: por favor aydenos a
mantener a nuestros estudiantes seguros durante los horarios de entrada y salida. Tome precauciones adicionales si
conduce y deja a los nios. Recuerde usar la puerta del pasajero que est frente a la acera. Asegrese de
estacionar legalmente; tenga en cuenta el bloqueo de entradas de garajes. Tambin, tomen consideracin con los
estudiantes y los adultos que pueden ser incmodos alrededor de animales. Por favor de mantener animales
domsticos fuera de los bordes de la escuela. Otra forma de ayudar a que nuestro ao escolar se realice sin

general.

Finalmente, nuestro da escolar comienza a las 8:00 am. Cualquier estudiante que llegue despus de las 8:05 debe
ingresar a travs de la entrada principal en la puerta 1 y recibir un pase de tarde. Durante las inclemencias climticas
los estudiantes entran y son supervisados en los siguientes lugares: K-3ero en el gimnasio, 4to-5to en la cafetera y
6to-8vo en el anexo. Aydenos a preparar a sus hijos para el xito con traerlos a la escuela a tiempo, listo para
aprender todos los das.
