Traditional Dance
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this lesson, learners are expected to:
1. describe the nature and background of the dance; and
2. assumes responsibility for achieving personal fitness.
Recreation consists of human activities and experiences that occur during leisure time.
Dance
Dance is a performing art form consisting of purposefully selected sequences of human
movement. This movement has aesthetic and symbolic value and is acknowledged as dance by
performers and observers within a culture.
Dancing can be a way to stay fit for people of all ages, shapes and sizes. It has a wide range of
physical and mental benefits including improved condition of your heart and lungs. increased muscular
strength, endurance and motor fitness.
Dance is a series of movements set to music where there emerge, organization, structure, and
pattern, according to (Dance Education in the School Curriculum).
Dance is a series of rhythmic and patterned bodily movements usually performed with music,
according to (Merriam Webster Dictionary).

Movements
Non-Locomotor Movements
• Abduction is a movement toward the center of the body.
• Adduction is a movement away from the center of the body.
• Circumduction is a movement in circular motion.
• Flexion is a movement of the joints of the body which is to bend.
• Extension is a movement of the joints of the body which is to extend.
• Vibration is a movement like shaking and vibrating.
Locomotor Movements
• Walking is done by transfer of weight from one foot to the other.
• Running moving at a faster speed than walking, never having both feet on the ground at the same
time.
• Jumping is done by springing on one foot or both feet but landing on two feet.
