CLASS VI -HOLIDAY ASSIGNMENT [2023-24]

SUBJECT: SCIENCE

Answer the following questions.

(Answers for 1 to 9 to be written neatly on A4 size ruled papers, file it with cover page
containing subject, name, class/sec and roll no)

1)Mention the methods that can be used for the separation of the following mixtures:
i)Wheat, sugar and husk
ii) Rice, peas and iron filings
iii) Sand, black gram (urad) and husk.
2) Take a sieve and a small quantity of flour. Sieve the flour to separate any impurities in it.
Now, make a fine powder of chalk pieces and mix it with the flour. Can we separate the flour
and the powdered chalk by sieving? Give reason for your answer.

3) Take two beakers (A and B) with 100ml of water each. Add 2 tablespoons of salt to the
beaker B and stir it. Now heat both the beakers. Allow water to boil. Continue to boil till the
evaporation completes. What do you observe in beaker A and B?

4) Name the various materials from which following things can be made:
Shoes, chair, coins, utensils, clothes.

5)List five common materials in column I that are known to you. Now, try and think of
everyday objects you know, that are made mainly of these materials, and list them in column II.

6) i) Differentiate between soluble and insoluble substances.


ii) List the following substances as soluble and insoluble in water.
Sand, salt, sugar, paint, chilli powder, desi ghee, blotting paper.

7) Give reason-

i) Why is ring of iron blade heated before fixing it into handle of a tool?

ii) Why do we see water droplets collected on the outer surface of a glass container, containing
ice?

8) Is steaming of idli batter to make idli a reversible change? Give reasons to support your
answer.

9) i) How cutting an apple is different from burning of a paper? Write two pints of
differences.

ii) Classify the following into reversible/ irreversible and physical/ chemical changes.

a) Curdling of milk
b) Melting of wax
c) Lighting a matchstick
d) Heating of sugar
e) Digesting food
f) Dissolving sugar in water
g) Burning of petrol in vehicles
h) Melting of chocolate for a cake topping.

10. LESSON 7 Activity –

Seeds stored in a glass bottle do not show most of the characteristics of living organisms.

 Conduct an activity to show that they are living organisms.


 Write down the activity on an A3 size chart paper.
 Draw/ stick relevant pictures.
 List any three features of living organisms observed here.
