MY REFLECTION

The Indigenous people or the indigenous cultural communities are classified as the group
of people or home genos societies identified by self-ascription and ascription by the others,
who have continuously lived as organized community or communally bounded and defined
territory. It has been stated in the Republic Act 8371 or better known as the “Indigenous
People’s Right Act of 1997”. That although they have been historically differentiated from most
Filipinos, they still carry the rights for equal treatment as the majority of people in the
Philippines. The said RA also stated that the state shall guarantee that members of ICC/IPs
regardless of the sex, shall equally enjoy the full measures of human rights and freedom.
Without distinctions or discriminations and that the state recognizes the obligations to
respond to strong expression of the ICC’s /IP for cultural integrity by assuring maximum ICC/IP
participation in the direction of education, health, as well as other service of ICC ‘s/ IPs. To
render such service more responsive to the needs and desires of these communities.
Therefore, it is essential for teachers like us to be able to recognize and ability if there are
learners in class who belongs so that we can careful to ICC’s/IPs group so that we can carefully
address to their needs and therefore give them equal treatment and appropriate teaching
strategies.
It is very important to us teachers after knowing that there are learners in our class who
belong to IP group, that we should be able to make sure that we use different teaching
strategies that are also applicable for them and not just for the whole class in equal. We always
make such that we must choose appropriate teaching strategies to address the need of the IP
group. This is also making sure that the students are treated equally and are never left behind.
In this scenario, we are taught to the compassionate and caring, to reflect on our ideas
about people from other cultures, to reflect on our own cultural frames of reference, and to be
knowledgeable about other cultures of our students. As a teacher, we must be aware of our
student’s backgrounds, whether they are from common or IP s students so that we can meet
their needs and ensure that they all have access to the quality of education we provide. We
should recognize the importance of including students cultural references in all aspects of
learning.
IPs are entitled to a well- rounded education. Education that reflects their values, feeling,
principles and general ideas .Education that not only common students cant access but also IPs
students. In the given situation, I believe the teacher was prepared to give through
consideration in which learners had choices to chose from in the assessment he/she gave. I
believe that in this assessment there was equality for all students and the teachers has been
sensitive to the students he/she handled in this scenario, we are thought to be compassionate
and caring, to reflect on our ideas about people from another culture, to reflect on our own
cultural frames of reference, and to be knowledgeable about other culture of our students.
