The document provides instructions for a dystopian collage task. Students are asked to consider words and themes related to dystopias in literature and film. They should use quotes from The Hunger Games and other novels to support their ideas about dystopian societies. Students will then create a collage on Canva using images and text that reflect their understanding of dystopias. Two example collages are shown that effectively capture dystopian themes through surreal or oppressive imagery and text.

The images reflect pain, anguish and
fear and have been selected to support this student’s ideas of a dystopia. The colours reflect the washed out, oppressed feel common within this genre. The student has also considered text to support these ideas. For example, “rise up, fight back!”.
This collage takes on a more
surrealist perspective. It amalgamates ideas of sci-fi within the dystopian genre which is not uncommon. The colour tone, although different to the collage above, the blues and greys still indicate oppression and a mood of oppression and subjugation.
