A Comparative Study on the Academic Performance of Working and Non-Working Students in

Senior High School

INTRODUCTION

Having a part-time work in the Senior High School is common. It should be highlighted
that students increasingly rely on themselves to complete their studies. Being a working or
non-working student comes with responsibilities, especially when it comes to time
management. Managing the time spent working and learning. It should also be emphasized
that at such a young age, they are required to labor in order to sustain their daily life. As the
number of Senior High students grows, the researchers sought to know if being a working or
non-working student had an effect on academic performance.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The study aims to identify the similarities and differences between the two groups of
students in terms of their grades, time spent on social activities, involvement in co-curricular
activities, and time spent relaxing and socializing.

This study seeks to answer the following questions:

1. Do you think working students have lower grades than non-working students?

2. As a working student what are the pros and cons of working a job in high school in terms of
academic achievement?

3. What are the similarities and differences between working and non-working students in
terms of academic performance and behaviors?

REVIEW of RELATED LITERATURE

In a study by Smith and Johnson (2019), they found that working students who
maintained a manageable balance between work hours and academic responsibilities often
performed at par with non-working students. However, studies by Brown et al. (2018) and
Garcia (2020) highlighted that excessive work hours and high job demands negatively
influenced academic outcomes.
