Topic 1: WHY SHOULD WE FOLLOW RULES?

What are rules?
Rules are an accepted principle or
instruction that states the way things are or
should be done, and tells you what you are
allowed or are not allowed to do.
Rules are a set of instructions and
consequences that are established to help
individuals, and whole communities, live
and work together harmoniously.
What are rules?
We’re likely to find rules in schools,
workplaces and in the home. They’re
subjective to the person/group creating them,
meaning they may vary depending on
circumstance or other variables, such as
personal values and morals.
Rules can also be used by an individual to set
personal boundaries.
Why Rules Are Important?
They enable people to organize all the processes correctly,
starting from house chores and ending with more
complicated issues as, for example, the functioning of a
whole country.

A well-developed system of rules helps humanity to avoid

chaos and many problems that may be caused by the lack of
regulations. Laws dictate what is proper and what is wrong.
Why Rules Are Important?
Rules are created to have a society that is regulated. Not having rules
to follow will make our society chaotic and everybody will do
whatever they want to do.
Rules are also created to maintain uniformity and facilitate smooth
working society.

Ex: wearing of IDs and uniform is essential in the security of the

students and the entire school.
For us to live harmoniously, there is always a tradeoff between
our rights and our responsibility. Since we have inherited
freedom, it allows us to do whatever we want to do. However,
our freedom is incomplete since if we have absolute freedom, it
is a possibility that we will get in the way of the freedom of
others.

Having said that, freedom is essential, but it is necessary to

have limitations over it. Order in different systems is necessary
for proper implementation and organized system of procedures.
EXPLANATION
Famous Greek philosopher Aristotle remarked that, “Man is a social human
being” and he needs to live in a society with others.

Man, the human animal, must satisfy certain natural basic needs in order to
survive. He must eat, drink, excrete, sleep, maintain adequate health and
procreate. These needs constitute the innate nature of man.

But man cannot live alone-he must enter into relationship with his fellows if he
is to develop and maintain adequate mental and physical health.
Continuation
For living in the society he needs to follow certain rules and
protocols of the society. The rules can be informal and formal ones.
The rules are needed to bind people together and for showing
respect and courtesy to one and other.
