Subject: Progressa® Bed–Bed Position Sensor Calibration

Purpose
The purpose of this Technical Update is to clarify the steps for bed-position sensor calibration.
Solution/Action
Until the service manual can be revised, technicians should use the following procedure to
calibrate the bed position sensor.
Part and Tool Requirements
Tape Measure
Enter Bed Position Data
1. Make sure the bed is plugged in.

2. Enter service mode—press and hold the Lockout control (A) for 10 seconds or until the
Service Required LED (B) flashes and you hear a triple beep (see figure 1 on page 1).

3. Clear the calibration flag—press the Foot In, Foot Up, and Foot Out controls
simultaneously to start the bed position calibration (one beep sounds).

4. Exit service mode—press and release the Lockout control. You will hear a triple beep.
The Service Required LED will be on to indicate that bed is not finished with calibration.

5. Position the bed—do as follows:


• Fully raise the bed.
• Fully raise the head section.
• Fully raise the thigh section.
• Fully lower and fully extend the foot section.

6. Enter service mode—press and hold the Lockout control for 10 seconds or until the
Service Required LED flashes and you hear a triple beep.

7. Take a calibration reading—Press the Foot In, Foot Up, and Chair controls
simultaneously to enter the bed calibration data at the maximum position (one beep
sounds).

8. Exit service mode—press and release the Lockout control. You will hear a triple beep.

9. Position the bed—do as follows:


• Fully lower the head section.
• Fully lower the thigh section.
• Fully raise and fully retract the foot section.
• Lower the bed so the top of the intermediate frame tube is between 13-3/8" (34
cm) and 13-1/2" (34.3 cm) from the floor at or near both ends of the tube. Make
sure the intermediate frame is around 0° relative to ground (bed is level). Use the
Trendelenburg or reverse Trendelenburg controls if needed.

10. Enter service mode—press and hold the Lockout control for 10 seconds or until the
Service Required LED flashes and you hear a triple beep.

11. Take a calibration reading—press the Foot In, Foot Up, and Bed Flat controls
simultaneously to enter the bed calibration data at the minimum position.

12. Determine if successful—Listen for the bed to beep:


• If one beep sounds, the bed frame calibration is successful. Go to step 13.
• If three beeps sound, the bed frame calibration failed. Check the bed position and
repeat step 3 through step 12.

13. Exit service mode—press and release the Lockout control. You will hear a triple beep.

NOTE:
If the bed does not have Chair Egress Mode, you are finished after step 13;
steps 14 to 22 are not required. Make sure the Service Required LED is no
longer illuminated.

14. Remove the footboard.

15. Enter service mode—press and hold the Lockout control for 10 seconds or until the
Service Required LED flashes and you hear a triple beep.

16. Clear the calibration flag—press the Chair, Trendelenburg, and Reverse
Trendelenburg controls simultaneously to start the Chair Egress position calibration (one
beep sounds).

17. Exit service mode—press and release the Lockout control, you will hear a triple beep.

18. Position the bed—press and hold the Chair control to put the bed in the Chair Egress
position (one beep sounds).

NOTE:
Make sure the bed lowers into the FullChair® 1

position and tilts into a reverse Trendelenburg


position. This will take approximately one minute as
the bed raises, deflates the seat, tilts, etc. (It is possible
you may hear a triple beep during this time.)
Do not release the Chair control until you hear the
single beep that will sound when the bed is in the
position shown in the photo.

19. Press the Bed Down control to move the bed down
until the lowest edge of foot end is between 1.5"
and 1.75" (38 mm to 44.5 mm) from the floor and
then release Bed Down control.

20. Enter service mode—press and hold the Lockout


control for 10 seconds or until the Service
Required LED flashes and you hear a triple beep.

21. Take a calibration reading—press the Chair, Bed Flat, and Boost controls
simultaneously to enter the Chair Egress calibration data.

22. Determine if successful—Listen for the bed to beep:


• If one beep sounds, the Chair Egress calibration is successful. Do not press any
controls for 30 seconds and the bed will exit the Service Mode. Make sure the
Service Required LED is no longer illuminated.
• If three beeps sound, the Chair Egress calibration failed. Check the bed position
and repeat step 16 through step 22.
