The new Electronic Monitoring System

Messenger is an electronic monitoring system with real-time, visual feedback


on engine operating conditions. The Messenger display system is designed for
use with electronically controlled Caterpillar Machines

This Electronic Display indicates


ƒ Critical Parameters
ƒ Settings capabilities
ƒ Warnings and Diagnostics
ƒ Totals

Messenger Features
ƒ 240 pixels x 64 pixels fully graphic, positive image, transflective LCD
allows for excellent visibility in all lighting conditions
ƒ Information can be displayed in either multilingual text (including
graphical languages) or in graphical format on the LCD.

It enables the operator to recall his personal machine settings: Steering and
Blade Reaction, Braking Procedure…

It also enables the operator to recall different parameters regarding the job to
perform

It allows an easy change from one operator’s settings to another

Select the Main Menu with the Arrow Buttons and Press the OK

Please follow the following steps when creating a


new profile for the first time.

Settings: Implement

Within the “IMPLEMENT” settings option, the


operator can adjust the implements’
modulation. The operator can choose from
the following three levels of modulation:
• Fine
• Standard
• Course
Selecting the ‘Fine’ option slows down the
implement in order to better handle small
corrections to the implement. This is best
suitable for grading applications.

Within the “IMPLEMENT” settings option,


the operator can also enable or disable the
bucket float mode and fit the kickout
settings to a specific job
application/environment (see detailed
explanations on page 15 to 19).

Settings: Hystat

Within the “HYSTAT” menu the operator has


the option of regulating the machine
acceleration /deceleration rate. The operator
can adjust the response rate of the hystat
controls. The operator has the choice
between the following options:
• Low
• Medium
• High
A low machine acceleration / deceleration
rate slows down the acceleration and
deceleration of the machine allowing for
smoother directional shifts.

Opr Steering Resp Rate


Within the “STEERING” menu the operator
has the option of adjusting the steering
response rate. The steering response rate
changes the speed at which the machine
responds to a steering command. The
operator has the choice between the
following options
• Low
• Medium
• High
A low response rate would be preferred in
rough ground conditions in order to avoid
accidental input due to vibration of the
machine.

Opr Steering Modulation


Within the “STEERING” menu the operator
has the option of adjusting the amount of
joystick travel that is required to adjust the
turning angle. The operator has the choice
between the following three levels of
response rate
• Low
• Medium
• High
High modulation would be preferred when
less turning speed is required.

Fuel Efficient Reverse


Within the “ENGINE” menu the operator has
the option of adjusting the speed of the
machine in reverse. Selectable Fuel Efficient
Reverse (FER) can reduce fuel consumption
up to 10% depending on application.
Reducing the engine speed in reverse travel
while maintaining set travel speed. The
operator has the choice between the
following options
• Off
• Standard
• Economy
Both the Standard and Economy modes
reduce the engine speed to 1850 and 1700
rpms respectively in reverse travel. Note that
machine application.

It is important to save your settings to a profile otherwise


all changes made will be lost once you switch off the
machine.

If you have not already created a profile
you will be directed to the creation of a
profile screen. Please follow the steps
indicated under the section labeled
“Settings: Create Profile” on page 10.
Otherwise you will arrive at the following
screen.
