NOTES:
• Components, such as plastics and metals, are recyclable in many local
jurisdictions. Hill-Rom recommends recycling all components that can be recycled
locally.
• Components which cannot be recycled can be disposed of via standard waste
disposal procedures.
• When a customer receives multiple configurations or products, make sure that the
correct mattresses are installed on the frames. Make sure that the Progressa
Pulmonary mattresses only go on Progressa Pulmonary frames, and Progressa
Therapy mattresses only go on Progressa Therapy frames.
• If error codes occur, check all of the cable connections to make sure that they are
fully connected before you replace any parts. This can help avoid unnecessary
repairs.

UNPACKING
1. Remove the plastic shipping bag.
2. Insert a cargo strap between the foot section and knee section (see Figure 1 on page 2).
3. Attach the cargo strap to the foot section cross tube.

WARNING:
Warning—Two person lift required. Failure to use a minimum of two people and overhead lift to
lower the bed from the shipping position on to its casters could cause injury or equipment
damage.
4. Use a minimum of two people and an overhead lift to lower the bed from the upright shipping position
on to its casters.
5. Remove the cargo strap.

WARNING:
Warning—When you cut the cable ties, always use care and cut away from yourself and the finished
surfaces. Failure to do so could cause injury or damage.
6. Cut and remove the orange cable ties (A) that attach the head section to the bed frame (see Figure 2 on
page 3).
7. Cut and remove the orange cable ties (B) that attach the siderails to the head section.

8. If the WatchCare Incontinence Management System is installed on the bed, do the following steps:

NOTE:
To determine if the bed has the WatchCare Incontinence Management System, see if the bed has the
orange cable tie (C) at the patient’s left corner of the foot section.
a. Cut and remove the orange cable tie (C) that attaches the WatchCare indicator to the foot section
(see Figure 2 on page 3).
b. Use the alcohol-based cleaner to clean the area where the indicator light will be installed. Let the
area dry.

WARNING:
Warning—During this procedure, you will need to use an alcohol-based cleaner. Such cleaners are
flammable and toxic to skin, eyes, and respiratory tract. Do not use the cleaner near an open flame or in
confined areas.
c. The indicator light is to be installed on the left side of the foot-end cover. The indicator light is to be
centered on the cover with its left-side edge 16.75" +/- 1" (42.5 cm +/- 2.54 cm) from the left-side of
the cover.

d. Remove the adhesive covering from the


top of the indicator light, and install the
indicator light so that the label on the
indicator light is toward the outside of
the bed. Firmly press the indicator into
position for 10 seconds with
approximately 75 lb (34 kg) of force.
e. Install the three cable ties to secure the
indicator light cable to the back of the
indicator light and foot-end cover.
f. Use the wire cutter to remove the excess
material from the wire tie.

9. Remove the two bolts (D) that attach the packing brace (E) to the bed (see Figure 2 on page 3).
10. Remove the packing brace (E).

11. Cut and remove the shipping band that attaches the cardboard spacer (F) and low-tack tape (G) to the
bed (see Figure 2 on page 3).
12. Remove the cardboard spacer (F) and low-tack tape (G) from the bed.
13. Remove the power cord and auxiliary power cord, if equipped, from the cardboard spacer (F).
14. Install the power cord and auxiliary power cord if equipped. Make sure to install the screw through the
P-clamp to attach the power cord to the bed (see figure 3 on page 5).

15. Install the plastic plugs into the bolt holes where the packing brace (E) was removed (see Figure 2 on
page 3).
16. If a communication cable will be installed, do these,
otherwise leave the cover installed—
a. Remove the communication system cover.
b. Install the p-clip onto the communication cable.
c. Install the screw through the p-clip to attach the
cable to the bed.

CAUTION:
Caution—Failure to let the bed warm to room temperature
for 2 hours before you put the bed into service could cause
equipment damage.
17. If the bed was delivered during cold weather, let the bed
warm to room temperature for a minimum of 2 hours
before you put the bed in service.
18. Connect the bed to AC power.
19. On the patient siderail controls, at the same time, press
and hold these controls for 5 seconds:
• Nurse Call
• Head Up
• Head Down

20. Lower the foot section far enough to remove the foam block (H) that is under the foot section (see
Figure 2 on page 3).
21. Raise the head section to the highest position.

CAUTION:
Caution—Failure to remove the shipping blocks could cause equipment damage.
22. Remove the two bolts that attach the red shipping blocks (I) that are under the head section.
23. Cut and remove the orange cable ties (J) that attach the transport handles and IV pole to the bed.
24. Raise the bed to the highest position.
25. Make sure that the mattress is correct for the bed configuration. Refer to the user manual.
26. Install the mattress as applicable:
Progressa Prevention Surface:
a. Turn the surface so that the bottom side is up.
b. Remove the straps (M) from the bottom side of the surface (see Figure 5 on page 7).
c. If necessary, remove the screws (K) and the back panel (L).
d. Put the two straps (M) through the two slots in the back filler panel (N) and around the bed frame
(O).
e. Install the screw (P), washers (Q), and lock nut (R) through the holes in the straps (M).
f. If necessary, install the back panel (L) and the screws (K).
g. Install the mattress and connect the straps (M) to the bottom side of the mattress.
h. If necessary, pull on the strap (M) to tighten the mattress.
Progressa Pulmonary or Progressa Therapy surface:
a. Put the mattress on the frame, and fold the head end of the mattress towards the foot section.
b. Connect the hose connector to the receptacle on the bed (see Figure 4 on page 6).

27. Install all accessories as applicable.


28. If necessary, configure the bed. Refer to the mattress/frame configuration instructions (197154).
29. Do the “Function Checks” in the service manual, and put the bed in service.
