HiLow
The sleep surface of the Hill-Rom 900 Electrical Bed can be raised or
lowered in order to position the patient or when putting the patient in the
bed or taking the patient out of the bed.
The HiLow system is made up of two independent oscillating elevation
arms that are articulated on the bed frame and slide in the sections of the
chassis. The motors are attached to the bed frame and to the elevation arm.
The system does not require any special maintenance during its nominal
service life (see “Preventive maintenance” on page 4-2). Consequently, the
elevation arms can be replaced in the event of a failure, but must only be
dismantled or repaired by Hill-Rom personnel.
Retractable head section
The AHS function combines the upwards and sideways movements of the
head section towards the head of the bed.

Troubleshooting procedures
Getting Started Appendix
Start every procedure in this chapter at step 1. Follow the order indicated. Refer to the following at the start of each RAP if necessary:
Each step assumes that the preceding steps were OK. Each step • “Abbreviations” page 1-2 for the meaning of the abbreviations used in
corresponds to the normal operation of the product. Please confirm by
answering "Yes" or "No" to the question. Your response will lead to another
step in the procedure, a repair analysis procedure (RAP), or a component

replacement. If more than one component is listed, replace them in the
given order. • “Configurations and wiring diagrams” page 1-12 to identify and help
understand wiring.
To begin gathering information about the problem, start with the initial
actions. NOTE:
To isolate or identify a problem and to verify the repair after completing It is also advisable to have the other electric parts of the bed at hand (e.g.,
each corrective action (e.g., replacing or adjusting a part, seating a actuator, power supply unit, motor cable) in order to complete the
connector), perform the function checks.
To verify the repair, perform the final actions after the function checks.
If the troubleshooting procedures do not isolate the problem, call your
troubleshooting procedures more easily.
These are test parts.

national Hill-Rom Technical Support (see back cover) for assistance. • An additional foot control pendant (HR900121)
WARNING: • a CUFA cable extension (169991)
Only the facility-authorized personnel can troubleshoot the Hill-Rom 900 Electrical • an additional lateral caregiver unit (HR900025)
Bed. • an LCU/CB connecting cable(160005).
CAUTION:
When handling electronic components, wear an antistatic strap (DES) connected to the
ground to prevent damaging the components.

NOTE:
3
The purpose of the proposed troubleshooting method is to limit as much as
possible the number of spare parts required and costs when analyzing the
failure.
NOTE:
It is advisable to lock out the electrical functions that are not affected by the
troubleshooting before starting the analysis or to disconnect the bed if the
failure does not affect an electrical function. In the latter case, all functions
should be locked out if the bed is fitted with a battery. 4

End-of-life equipment
The bed and its accessories should be cleaned and disinfected before de-
commissioning.
1
De-commissioned equipment materials (plastics, electrical I E
components, etc.) must be recycled in accordance with local B H
recycling regulations. Please, previously check and comply with the
local environmental policy (Directive 2012/19/EEC).
As regards the battery:

Do not dispose of the battery which contains substances and

dangerous metals for the environment and health (Directive
2006/96/EEC).
2
The bed is designed for easy dismantling so that it can be destroyed or
reused in accordance with the applicable recycling regulations (e.g.,
electric parts, plastics metal).
At the end of the bed’s life, Hill-Rom recommends that you contact a
specialist in the dismantling of beds or, if the bed can still be used, to
donate the bed to a charitable organization so that it can be used again. D
Always clean and disinfect the bed before shipment for dismantling or
donation.
