INTRODUCTION

A. BACKGROUND
ICT is the abbreviation of information and communication technology. It is defined as a
set of different technological tools and resources used to communicate, create, disseminate, and
manage information. According to Daniels (2002) Information and communication technology
(ICT) is considered one of the basic foundations of modern society. Many countries now
consider understanding ICT and mastering basic ICT skills and concepts as part of the core of
education. However, globalization has brought major changes in every aspect of human life,
including education. The introduction of ICT into education can help create new ways of
learning and teaching in a world where technology has reduced it to a small village. The use of
ICT in education allows for more student-centered learning. However, along with the world's
rapid movement towards digital media and information, the role of ICT in education is becoming
increasingly important and this importance will continue to grow and develop in the 21st

important. Teachers are expected to be traditional and modern in their teaching and learning
process. Teachers must be prepared to have the capacity to incorporate ICT in the teaching
process. Recently, the internet has gained and is still gaining tremendous popularity in
second/foreign language teaching and more and more teachers and students feel embarrassed
about this. So, there is no doubt that ICT has had an impact on the quantity and quality of

opportunities for individualized teaching
