BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Cutting class is a coined term that actually means intentionally not attending a required class in
one’s formal education without a valid excuse or reasons. Cutting of classes is especially rampant in
public school and in the Philippines where there is inefficient security and a relatively high numbers
of students thus making hard to monitor each student. This issue is rampant as well in tertiary
educational institution where there are no more limits when one can or cannot go outside of the
campus and a limits when one can or cannot leave the classroom during a lecture. This problem
affects the three people: The parents, students, and teacher. We know dozens of students from
different schools in metro manila who cut class.
Cutting class is one of the most issue of the school because of the student who do not attend
their other subjects. Cutting a class can affects a student’s academic performance and this is also one
of the biggest problem of the teacher because their students choose to do not enter their other subject
because of the lack of interest in that one subject or they are to lazy to enter their subject teacher, but
many students are doing this and they have a reason but their reasons are not valid to their teachers .
In February 01, 2005 Steven E. Gump said the three hundred under graduates enrolled a general
education course at a large mid-western state university revealed as expected a strong negative
correlation between absences and final grades. Although the complex equation for academic success
involves many more variables that attendance alone some of which are also considered in this article,
attendance should be one of the easiest variables for students to control. Students who wish to succeed
academically should attend class and instructors should likewise encourage class attendance

The result of this study will beneficial to the teacher and parents to help them to determine and
to prevent the cause of cutting classes. As it said earlier, students that cut their classes are getting out
of hand, most of the teacher are encountering students that cut their classes every school year. In this
research we are going to study there reasons why those students cut their classes, so we would be able
to find some ways to encourage them not to waste their opportunity in studying, and also to deliver
this information to the teacher and parents to solve or to prevent those students from cutting their
classes
