Persamaan linear dalam dua pemboleh ubah ialah persamaan linear yang mempunyai dua
pemboleh ubah dan kuasa setiap pemboleh ubah ialah satu.
Linear equations in two variables is a linear equation which has 2 two variables and the power of
each variable is 1

First Variable / Pemboleh ubah pertama

y = 2x + 6

Second variable / Pemboleh ubah kedua

6.2.1 Identify the linear equation of two variables.

Activity 1: Mark (√) for the linear equation of two variables.

6c + = 10 ( ) 2w + 3 = 10 ( )

a+b=9 ( ) 15a + 6b = 2 ( )

7x + 9 = 3 ( ) 6x + 3 = 7 ( )

8s = 12 ( ) 18k + 5m = 8 ( )

3f = 15 ( ) 12r – 4s = 5 ( )

6.2.2 Form linear equations in two variables.

Example 1
Form a linear equation in two variables for each of the following:
( a ) The difference between two numbers is 18.
( b) The amount of pocket money saved by Ahmad ialah RMx and the amount
of pocket money saved by Norita is RMy. Total their saving is RM600.

Solution
(a) Let the two numbers be p and q. Concept difference is minus (-)
p − q = 18
(b) Total savings =RM600
x + y = 600

Activity 2 : Draw a line for the correct answer of each following situation.

In a sport day, total mark obtain by Ruby team and Emerald team were 258.

The difference between the longest length and the shortest

2a +length of a rope is 15m.
3b = 40
Total price of tickets for a theme park for eight adults and five children is RM265.
8m + 5n = 265
The total marks for at test paper which consists of Section A and Section B is 40. Each cor

c + d = 258

q – r = 15

6.2.3 Find two possibilities solutions for each of the linear equations below:
Example: a) 3a – 2b = 12

x+3y=8

i) If x = 2, (*you can choose any numbers*)

x + 3y = 8
2 + 3y = 8 (*substitute value x with 2)
3y = 8 – 2
3y = 6
y=6÷3
y=2

when x = 2, y = 2

ii) if x = 5
x + 3y = 8
5 + 3y = 8 (*substitute value x with 5)
3y = 8 – 5
3y = 3
y=3÷3
y=1

when x = 5, y = 1
b) 4p + q = 16 c) 3m - 2 = 6n
