TOPIC: USES OF ICT POLICIES IN TEACHING AND LEARNING IN BASIC EDUCATION

OBJECTIVE:
At the end of the lesson, students are expected to:
1. Identify the ICT policies in teaching and learning
2. Enumerate the benefits in education: and
3. Learn about the policies in ICT

CONTENT:

What is ICT?
- It is referring to information and communication technologies.
- A set of techniques and devices based on new technological tools and the different
supports and channels of information and communication.
What are ICT Policies?
- It is a roadmap of actions adopted and pursued by various government involving issues
in ICT such as access and civil liberties that are crucial to civil society.
- ICT policies main aspects are telecommunication (mainly telephone communication)
broad casting( radio and TV) and internet
- National ICT policy is a policy put into place by governments and stake holders who are
committed to the process of bringing digital technology to all individuals and
communities so that they can have access to information.

ICT IN EDUCATION
- ICT provides the flexibility and availability of learning materials to all students.
- It improves the effectiveness of education.

ICT Policies in Education


- ICT has become an engine of growth for global economy and has the potential to
contribute significantly to sustainable economy development, strengthen democracy,
increase transparency in governance, to foster international peace and stability.
- The group ( G8 Heads of state,2003) also emphasizes the need to develop human
resources capable of responding to the demands of the information age and to nurture
ICT literacy and skills through education, training, and lifelong learning.
- ICT help to increase productivity, as well as the need for young people to develop ICT
skills in preparation for adult life.

2. ICT Infrastructure
3. Teachers
4. Skills and Competencies
5. Learning resources
6. Education management
7. Monitoring and Evaluation, Research and Innovation

 Planning through tools
 Data storage in the cloud
 Digital white boards and interactive tables

Benefits of using ICT in education

2. Interactivity
3. Collaboration between students
4. They enhance creativity
