The Children's Healthy Future Non-Profit Organization opened the Early Intervention Centre in 2005 to provide advanced rehabilitation methods for children with special needs. • Opened in 2005, the Early Intervention Centre was created to
introduce advanced methods of rehabilitation for children with special needs. • The Center’s program provides: ✓ Early Intervention ✓ Inclusive Pre-school Education ✓ Training for caregivers of disabled children ✓ Training for the specialists working in the field of rehabilitation CWSN ✓ Research in the field of psychosocial rehabilitation • 23 Azerbaijani nationals: pediatricians, neurologists, psychiatrists, functional diagnostic specialists, specialist teachers, physical therapists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, art therapists, and music therapists trained by specialists from the USA and Europe are in full employment. • The Program aims to maximize a child’s ability to be introduced into society at an early age. Focus is made on their psychophysical development. Care is provided to each child within a healthy and safe environment. • Over 4,000 children aged between 1-7 have been receiving rehabilitation services at the Centre. • Over 100 children between the ages of 3-7 were accepted into mainstream schooling. • A new 1,700 sq. m Centre has been built in Baku providing state-of-the-art facilities including a physio pool, gym, music, light sensory therapy, art therapy, conferencing facilities, and doctor’s surgeries.
Steps for improving Centers activity:
✓ Adjustment of diagnostics, treatment, and rehabilitation of children with special needs in accordance with international standards. ✓ Conduct rehabilitation of children with special needs based on a multidisciplinary approach and case management. ✓ Implementation of mechanisms of monitoring rehabilitation services for quality assurance. ✓ Creation of a professional environment through training, workshops, and conferences for closer cooperation with Austrian colleagues which will improve the knowledge and skills of the Center staff. ✓ Establishment of a database and referral network for children registered in the Center for presenting complete and evident information to state organizations on statistical issues and increasing the quality of life of CWSN. At all stages of project implementation, permanent communication will be arranged with Austrian specialists who provide: ➢ Supervision of local specialists’ work: Familiarizing medical personnel with treatment strategies (diagnostic criteria, treatment protocols, rehabilitation methods); through training and seminars ➢ To provide professional consultation in the development of a program to address the rehabilitation of children with special needs ➢ To provide expertise including education and training for professionals working in the field of rehabilitation CWSN ➢ Assistance in organizing workshops and conferences on various issues of pediatrics, neurology, and rehabilitation in Azerbaijan ➢ Assistance in the creation methodological center for training staff from regions of the country
Expected Results
1. Austrian model will be tested in Azerbaijan. In case of its
successful implementation, it can be developed in other health facilities. 2. Participation in training, workshops, conferences, and supervision provided by Austrian specialists will significantly improve local specialists' knowledge and skills. 2. The modern methods of the rehabilitation of children with special needs including guidelines and rehabilitation protocols will be implemented in Azerbaijan. 3. The use of modern standards of care will increase clients' satisfaction with the services provided.
Perspectives of further development
The outcomes of the Center’s activities will be demonstrated to
the health authorities as a real alternative to existing services. The experience of effective care provision for children with special needs may be taken as a basis for implementing modern approaches to care in all regions of the country.
