Q1. For the mechanism shown in Fig. 1, links 4 and 6 are sliding blocks. Both connecting rods
(links 3 and 5) are each being 50.8 cm long. The length of the crack (link 2) is 15.3 cm. If slider
block 4 has an external force of 1000 N towards left and slider block 6 has an external force of
2000 N downwards.
The sliding blocks have mass 4.5 kg each. A mass 10 kg is attached at crack pin. Both
connecting rods are uniform. All links have mass of 20 kg/m. If slider block 4 has acceleration
of 10 m/s2 and velocity of 5 m/s towards left, then perform the complete inertia force analysis
of the mechanism by obtaining inertia forces and reactions forces at joints. Obtain the torque
T2 (both magnitude and direction) on the crack for the dynamic (considering both static external
and inertia forces due to motion) equilibrium of the mechanism. Neglect effect of the friction
and the crank angle is 45o. Tabulate all forces (magnitude and phase) at each joints/links and
supports. Please note that to get inertia forces one needs to do the kinematic analysis of
mechanism as well.

Q2 Do the dynamic analysis while considering friction (i) only at sliders with slider = 0.15
(while slider 4 has impeding motion towards left). (ii) for sliders (slider = 0.15) and pin joints
(pin = 0.05).
