Dear Editor,
I am writing to submit our research article entitled “Consumer Awareness and Attitude towards Fish
Safety: The Case of a Metropolitan City, Indonesia” for publication in Journal of Food Distribution
Research. The research aims to analyse consumer awareness of the importance of traceability in ensuring
fish safety. Nevertheless, to get clear findings, so we divided be several sections: first, to identify of
knowledge and attitude towards fish safety; second, to know segmentation consumers in intention to buy
fish whose traceability was guaranteed and; the last, to explore the attitude towards fish safety whose
traceability was guaranteed—the research using a sequential explanatory mixed approach. Our research
reveals that the consumer’s metropolitan city is unaware of food safety applicable to fish or traceability
guaranteed fish safety. In addition, sceptical consumers about providing fish safety in the market induce
the knowledge of fish safety not affected buying intention.

Given that food safety (mainly fisheries) issue in developing countries, we believe that the findings
presented in our article will appeal to the policymakers and researchers. Our findings can evaluate policy
for enforcement regulation and improve surveillance at each point of the supply chain. Besides that, we use
traceability as guaranteed seafood safety, regarding finding not applicable in Semarang city, Indonesia. So
the policymakers can improve integrated control of seafood safety to guarantee seafood safety.

The research gives the different results conducted by i) Shaosheng Jin, Yan Zhang and Yining Xu (2017)
in Food Control; ii) Drini Imami, Engjell Skreli, Edvin Zhllima, Catherine Chanb (2017) in Economia
Agro-Alimentare. Cause The research was conducted using a mixed-method method, this study also
implies different results because it was carried out in a country that has poor food safety. This manuscript
expands on the prior research conducted because this research seeks to examine the potential for the
application of traceability from the demand side, which is different from the research conducted by
Dwiyitno (2009) in Squalen Bulletin of Marine and Fisheries Postharvest and Biotechnology, who only
conducted a literature review on the application of traceability in Indonesia.

The unresolved issue of food safety, especially in developing countries, likely proves special intrest to
many of your readers, enabling future research and contributing policymakers. So, We believe that this
article research is appropriate for publication by Journal of Food Distribution Research.
Thank you for receiving our manuscript and considering it for review. We appreciate your time and look
forward to your response.

Sincerely,

Aini Nur Furoida
