NOTICE FOR 2ND ROUND SELECTED CANDIDATES

(2023 GKS-U Embassy Track)

Dear Selected Candidates of the 2023 Global Korea Scholarship Undergraduate Degree Program,

Huge congratulations to you all for making it to the final round of the 2023 GKS-U!
We ask all selected candidates of the 2nd round whose names are included in the attached result to
carefully read the following information and take appropriate actions for the final round selection
process.

1. Medical Examination, Consent Form – Due December 16


(For ALL selected candidates of the 2nd round)

All candidates whose names are listed in the 2nd round result must conduct a medical checkup from a
licensed doctor or a physician at a local hospital and submit an Official Medical Examination AND a
laboratory evidence (result of your examination) officially issued by a hospital or a medical clinic.

 Download the Forms “Official Medical Examination” and “Consent to collect, use and provide
personal information” attached to this announcement. Please read and sign the consent form.
 The Official Medical Examination form must be completed and signed by a licensed physician
or a doctor with a MD degree.
 The laboratory evidence must include all the examinations listed in section 2~4 in the Official
Medical Examination form.

 How to submit:
- (1) Scan your Official Medical Examination report and all laboratory results into ONE
SINGLE PDF FILE. The name of the file should be [Your Candidate Number*]-Medical.
*Candidate Number: Please refer to the "2023 GKS-U Embassy Track 2nd Round Result Successful Candidates"
file. Each candidate is given a Candidate number in the first column. (ex. 2023U-EMB077)
- (2) Scan the signed “Consent to collect, use and provide personal information” form into
a pdf file. The name of the file should be [Your Candidate Number]-Consent
- Attach both (1) and (2) pdf files in an email and send your email to gksselection@korea.kr
by December 16 (Korea Standard Time) Please limit the size of each file to less than 5
MB.
- The subject line of your email should be: [Your Candidate Number]-Medical

For example, a candidate should attach [2023U-EMB077]-Medical and [2023U-EMB077]-Consent files in a single
email with the subject line, [2023U-EMB077]-Medical.

2. Third Round of Selection at each University – by December 16
(Only for Embassy Track Applicants)

NIIED sent three photocopied sets of application documents to the universities for the third round of
selection. Each university will conduct the evaluation and inform the results to both candidates and
NIIED by December 16. If you do not receive the result from the universities by December 16, you must
contact the universities to check the result. During this period, please check your emails frequently and
make yourselves available to answer any phone calls from the universities. In case the university
requests additional documents, please submit them directly to the university.

3. Final Choice of University – Due December 21


(Only for Embassy Track Applicants)

Once you receive the results from all three universities (either pass or fail), you must make your final
choice on one university and notify NIIED about your final choice no later than Wednesday, December
21, 2022 (Korea Standard Time).

 How to submit:
- Please write the university you chose in the body of an email in the following format:
I, (your name), from (your country) would like to enroll in a department of (name of
your department) at (your chosen university).
(e.g.) I, Hong Gil Dong, from South Korea would like to enroll in a department of Chemistry at Seoul
National University.
- The subject line of your email should be: [Your Candidate Number]-Name of your
chosen university. (e.g.) [2023U-EMB077]-Seoul National University

 Where to submit: gksselection@korea.kr

 If you do not wish to proceed with the scholarship program or if you were rejected by all three
universities, you do not need to submit your medical report, consent form or choice of your
university. However, please let us know about your case via gksselection@korea.kr.

 Submission Deadline: Wednesday, December 21, 2022 (Korea Standard Time)

4. Exemption from Korean Language Program – Due December 21

All 2023 GKS-U scholars who pass the final round will take one-year mandatory Korean language
program from early March 2023. From 2023, the Korean language program and the degree program
will be conducted at the same university.

<Exception>
GKS scholars who have valid TOPIK level 5 or 6 will be exempt from the language training program and
start their degree program in March 2023. If you have attained TOPIK level 5 or 6 after you have
submitted your applications or if you have already received TOPIK level 5 or 6 but did not report us of
your score, please inform us by submitting the scanned copy of your TOPIK certificate to NIIED.
* The 85th TOPIK score is the last TOPIK score one should report to NIIED for exemption from the
Korean language program. Applicants who achieved TOPIK level 5 or 6 after application deadline must
submit the valid TOPIK certificate to NIIED by December 21. If you have already submitted your TOPIK
certificate at the time of application and if there is no change to your TOPIK level, you do not have to
re-send the certificate.

 How to submit
- Save a scanned file of your TOPIK certificate into a PDF file and name it into the following
format: [Your Candidate Number]-TOPIK. Limit the size of the file to less than 5 MB.
- Attach the pdf file in your University Choice email.
For example, a candidate should attach [2023U-EMB077]-TOPIK (if any) file in his/her university choice email with
the subject line, [2023U-EMB077]-Seoul National University.

Important Notes on gksselection@korea.kr account

This is a receive-only email account for document submission. You will not receive any response to
your inquiries regarding the program or application. Should you have inquiries that require response,
please send an email to kgspniied@korea.kr.

You will not receive confirmation email after your submission. If there is an issue with your submitted
email or if we do not receive your email until the due date, then we will contact those candidates
individually.

Due to security reasons, we cannot open files that are sent via google drive, dropbox, one drive or any
internet-linked files. We only accept files that are attached in an email.

5. Additional Document Submission
(For ALL selected candidates of the 2nd round)

For those of you who were expected to graduate at the time of application or applied with a
provisional graduation (or degree) certificate, must submit your authenticated official graduation
certificate by February 28, 2023 to NIIED through the embassy. Each embassy should send NIIED a
scanned copy of the documents by February 28, 2023. Please send hard copies to NIIED to the address
below:

Your document should be authenticated (apostilled or consular-confirmed). If the document is written in


a language other than Korean or English, you should submit a notarized translation along with your
authenticated document. Please note that all documents submitted to NIIED will NOT be returned in any
case.

Conditional Successful Candidates


Candidates who applied with certificate of expected graduation or a provisional graduation (degree)
certificate will be announced as Conditional Successful Candidates in the Final Announcement if the
embassy does not submit their official graduation certificate or diploma to NIIED by December 21,
2022.

If Conditional Successful Candidates fail to submit their authenticated official graduation (degree)
certificate or diploma by February 28, 2023 to NIIED through the embassy, their scholarship may be
cancelled.

Note: We will announce the final results in late-December. However, even after a candidate was
announced as a final successful scholar, we may cancel the scholarship at any time if a scholar is found
to be disqualified or an application document of a scholar is discovered to be a fraud.

※ NIIED will contact GKS scholars to the email account submitted in their application. If scholars need to
change their contact information before their enrollment to the university/Korean language institution,
please let us know about the updates via email (both kgspniied@korea.kr and gksselection@korea.kr)
