ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
Firstly I would like to thank, Prof. Ratansharan Panchal for their valuable
guidance throught the summer internship and for preparation of the
report. I would aslo like to thank, Dr. Khadeeja Priyan HOD, Department
of Civil Engineering, GCET and other faculty members for their support
during the internship.

PREFACE
The main objective of this Summer Internship was to observe, study and
perform the various construction activities which undergo on-site during
the period of the Internship and also to observe the execution process of
different construction activities and to compare the activities which
studied in theory and which are going on the site.
The construction activities covered during the Internship period was slab,
columns, beams, formwork, reinforcements etc. Also the observation of
different types of working drawings was carried out and the checking of
execution of work according to the working drawings.

INTRODUCTION
PROJECT NAME: RK SILVER
Introduction to site
RK Silver is a residential apartment building constructed by Shilp
Developers. It is construction having five floors with parking on
ground floor. The total height of the building is 19.35m built on 424
m2 area.
Location details:
It is located at RK park main road, RK park, manavadar, Junagadh
(362630). The main road is 9m wide and the side road is 6m wide.
The Key Plan of the location is given below,
LIST OF DRAWINGS
Permission drawing
The permission drawing includes the all details of the construction
which are required to submit at the municipality construction
department. FSI, permissible built-up-area, construction use details
etc. are shown in this figure.
MATERIALS
Concrete
The concrete used in most of the part of the building in my
knowledge was having a grade of M25. The mix for M25 grade of
concrete is 1:1:2 (cement: sand: aggregates) as suggested by Indian
Standards.
On this particular site 53 grade cement OPC (IS 12269– 1987) is used.
The cement used is of hathi cement a well reputed cement company.
The price of one bag is about 330-350 rupees.
Steel
The steel is used as a reinforcement in the building. The steel bars are
available in different diameters. Steel bars are also to be ISI certified.
The various diameters of steel bars used at site are 20mm, 16mm,
12mm, 10mm, 8mm
Formwork
These are the temporary support to the RCC work. Wooden, Iron are
the main types of formwork materials.
Masonry
In our region LIMESTONE BLOCKS are mainly used in the
construction works because of its lesser price in comparison to the
bricks and easy labour work and better strength.
Limestone blocks are also available in different size like for external
wall of 9 inch the size available is 9*8*19 inches, for internal walls of
4 inch the size available is 4*11*19
inches likewise.
ONGOING WORK
Slab (Level-3)
On 24th may when I started the internship the concreting of level 3
slab is to be conducted. The total slab area is around 4000 sq. ft. and
M25 design mix of concrete is to be used. The design thickness of
slab is 5 inch. Concrete mixer is used to make concrete and lift is
used to lift it to level-3. Big bucket and an adjustable track on which
the concrete bucket rolls are used.
On the above figure we can see the wooden strip on the side, it is of 5
inch and the level of slab is kept at the same level of that strip. Electric
pipe lines are also seen in the picture. We have to use strong branded
electric pipeline so that they don’t break due to slab load.
As slab starts turning in the solid state soft curing work is required
because of the high temperature the water particles from the surface
starts evaporating and cracking on the surface happens. Curing must be
soft If there is a pressure in the water flow concrete may deteriorate.
There are three different sizes of columns at the site of which details
are given in the above figure on page 9. The column reinforcement is
placed and the checking is done with the structural drawing provided
by the structural engineer.
Shuttering
paste is also used to fill the voids and to give smooth surface to the
column.
Concreting
Staircase
After the reinforcement are placed the side shutters are provided and
then the concreting Is done. The thickness of landing and the bottom
layer of the staircase is 5 inch same as the slab. After concreting curing is
done regularly and properly.
CALCULATION
In above schedule we can see that there are three different types of
columns given, the detailed drawing is given above in report but in
calculation of steel required we are only going use this part of the table.
First we calculate the total vertical steel for all the columns then we
calculate horizontal steel(stirrups) and total it.
Now from the above figure and calculation, the below table is
prepared:
Thus from the above figure we can get idea about the total vertical steel
required, but columns also contain stirrups which also consume lots of
steel thus the calculation of steel required in stirrups is given below,
Thus from the above calculation of stirrups, about one ton of steel is
provided in all 19 columns of single level.
