FOR ROADWAY : Average Illuminance Calculation Method

Average Illumination = (Lamp Lumens)*(Cofficient of Utilization)*(Light Loss Factor)

(Spacing between Luminaire)*(Width of Roadway)

OUTDOOR LIGHTING CALCULATION 2

Title Sheet

Calculation for 5m road width

A. Roadway (5M)
10 lux is the average illumination Lumen output as per 250W
required fixture.Project Specific.
1. INPUT DATA FOR CALCULATION Height of Pole is taken as 10m.
a) Required illumination level:10(Lux) Vendor Input.
b) Luminaire :MH 250W, 20500 lumens
Project Specific
c) Height : 10 m
d) Lighting Loss Factor : 0.6 Lighting Pole arm.Vendor Input

e) Luminaire Overhang : 1.5 m To be verified with

f) The Roadways : 5 m calculation.
g) Spacing between Luminaire: 25 m

2. CALCULATION FORMULA
a) Typical Roadway Side Elevation View
1500

10000

500 1000 4000

This value comes from the above curve
b) Coefficient of Utilization (CU)
.( Using the street side value (RS) and plotting it on X-
axis,we get its corresponding CU on Y-axis.
Ratio = Transverse Width(street or house side)
Luminaire Mounting Height
This value comes from the above curve
CU. S :Street Side .( Using the house side value (RH) and plotting it on X-
CU. S :House Side axis,we get its corresponding CU on Y-axis.

RS = 5000-1000 / 10000 = 0.4 AND CU.S = 0.12

RH = 1500 / 10000 = 0.1 AND CU.H= 0.008

Total Coeficcient of Utilization

(Sum of CU.S & CU.H CU.T= 0.128

(Lamp Lumens)*(Cofficient of
Average Illumination = Utilization)*(Light Loss Factor)
(Spacing between Luminaire)*(Width of
Roadway) Hence to achive average
lux level of 10 lux the
spacing between poles (i.e
12.5952 Lux 25 m) is alright.

The calculated illumination value ,12.6(lx), is over than the required ,10(lx).
Thus, the distance between lighting fixtures shall be 25(m).
