DEDICATION
In fond memory of Late Bagadhar Brahma, a visionary and social worker, who donated
sixteen bighas of cultivativable land and rupees one lakh in cash
for the construction of the College Building;
and the local peasantry who contributed enormously
for the fulfilment of their long cherished dream of providing higher
education to the youths of the region by establishing a College.
The College, in its long march from inception
to development, owes much to
Bagadhar Brahma and the peasantry
as well, hence the name:
BAGADHAR BRAHMA KISHAN COLLEGE, JALAH
a mark of respect to both.
PROSPECTUS 2023-2024
‘The roots of education are bitter but the fruit is sweet’ - Aristotle

Bagadhar Brahma Kishan College, Jalah, originally known as ‘Kishan College’ was established on the 16th day
of August, 1978 at Jalahghat of the then greater Kamrup district, now included in Baksa district of BTR, Assam.
However, after a few years, the College was renamed with public consensus as Bagadhar Brahma Kishan
College paying a deep obeisance to late Bagadhar Brahma, a dedicated farmer and a humble social worker.

Established with the unconceited zest for imparting higher education to the eligible youths of the locality,
B.B.Kishan College has gloriously marched forward almost forty four years since inception and left behind an
indelible legacy of its own. But changes and challenges are inescapable. In this highly competitive
world, B.B.Kishan College stands as a beacon providing interminable access to information that can be transformed
into comprehensive and indispensable knowledge. At the institution we relentlessly emphasize on instilling
confidence and independence promoting critical thinking that helps the students act and react in real life situations.
Not only is knowledge imparted but opportunities are provided whereby the students learn and test the applicability
of the knowledge acquired. The needs of the contemporary society have propelled us to impart education that is
both qualitative and quantitative. Our pivotal emphasis is on multidimensional personality development. This is
achieved by providing contextualized study of curriculum which is given through diversified activities and
competitions that make them expressive and adaptable. These activities focus on developing entrepreneurial
skill, leadership quality, management skill, team spirit, communication and presentation skills, creativity and so
on whereby students are well equipped and ever ready to take the plunge into the highly competitive world. The
college provides academic and personal counseling to each student on regular basis. The vital essence is to
provide personal direction and developmental guidance. Counselling helps teachers to bond and develop better
rapport with the students that helps them to cope with the problems of growing up, keep up with their studies and
planning their careers.

The ongoing academic session has been an extraordinary challenge on account of covid. However, the
pandemic gave us an opportunity to rethink and reassess the strategies for higher education. Times of crisis
ought to inspire creativity, critical reflection, transformation, and renewal. In the new normal, the challenge is to
adapt, regenerate, and position the college for a strong and sustainable future. Striving for a vibrant and dynamic
academic atmosphere is a wholesome and holistic exercise. This calls for the integration of students in the
qualitative processes of the college. It necessitates an innovation ecosystem to hone the skills of students in
diverse programmes to mould them to become notable change-makers of the society. The aim is to make
learning an enriching, fulfilling, and enjoyable experience through a multidisciplinary approach, combining theory
and practice in pedagogy.

Bagadhar Brahma Kishan College is such an epitome of unity and fraternity where in students of diverse
ethnic groups sit together in the pursuit of knowledge. We need to confirm and continue this spirit in years to
come and all the stakeholders of the institution should reaffirm this holistic academic ambience to lead the
mission towards progress and accomplishment. I convey my sincere gratitude to the teaching and non-teaching
community as well as my beloved students for their uncompromised commitments towards achieving this goal.
I also express my appreciation to the honorable Chairperson of the G.B. and the esteemed members for their
guidance and relentless support for the cause of this Higher Educational Institution.
