A Sonic Smash Revamp

A Smash Bros concept

There are definitely a fuck-ton of characters who get poor movesets and lots of series who
get poor rep in Super Smash Bros. I’m not gonna pretend Sonic is the only one who suffers
from poor treatment in Smash Bros. But MAN. I feel
like there’s a painful amount of missed potential here.
Just to put a massive list here of pet peeves I have
with Sonic rep;

- Mediocre moveset that contains an unholy


amount of ball
- Stages are Green Hill and Green Hill but Mario
Galaxy (he gets 2 stages unlike most third
party characters which is neat tho)
- Palutena’s Guidance doesn’t even go over his
history and impact over the gaming industry
- Only remixes are from Brawl
- Just lack of soundtrack in general really
- Only one character even with the vast sea of
Sonic characters that could make fun
movesets

I really think there’s potential here to fix this though. Well, I’m not gonna go over everything.
Here’s what you will see in the doc;

- A new character idea (No OG moveset ideas though)
- A Windy Hill replacement

Without further ado, Sit tight and watch me ramble about Sonic in Smash Bros.

Chapter 1: A New Moveset for the Blue Blur

No crappy intro, y’all know why Sonic’s moveset is bad. Onwards.

NORMALS:
JAB: Nobody usually changes this move, but I’m making it the jab from Sonic Battle, being
the Sonic Punch, Sonic Kick, and the Top Kick. It’d work like it does in HDR.

DASH ATTACK: There’s lots of ideas always being thrown around for this one, but I want
this to be the slide used in the boost games. The hit by itself would be like most slides in the
game but somewhat weaker, doing some minor damage, working as a get-off-me move, but
it has a special property. You can continue running after you do the move, making it a good
combo starter. It also dodges some higher moves.

SIDE TILT: stays the same rofl

DOWN TILT: stays the same nyeheheh!

UP TILT: Sonic Up-Draft from Sonic Battle, Works like it does in Project +.

SIDE SMASH: if u think i’m changing this move u get no maidens

DOWN SMASH: Sonic Flare from Sonic Battle, works like it does in Project +. Again.
UP SMASH: Stays the same, but just make it a launching move instead of a rapid hit and
lessen the end-lag holy shit

NEUTRAL AIR: I think you could keep the hitbox the same AND make it the insta-shield
from Sonic 3 and Knuckles.

FORWARD AIR: Sonic Eagle, works like it does in Project +. Nuff said.

BACK AIR: Don’t see this get thrown around a lot, but the Windmill from Sonic Battle, but it
only like rotates 180 behind him. Sends opponents at straighter angles.
UP AIR: stays the same but fix the hitbox dummy

DOWN AIR: IDK what this move is supposed to be referencing, honestly. Could be the
stomp from Boost games, could be the Sonic Rocket from Battle, could be from Fighters,
IDK. I’m making it straight up the stomp from boost games. It’d send you straight down at no
angle whatsoever at high speeds. If you hit somebody head on, there’s a small chance they
might get buried.

GRABS:

Alright, so I got this very fucking sick idea from like a youtuber that said he couldn’t do
Youtube anymore and now he’s vanished off of Youtube entirely soooo just remember this
isn’t my idea, it’s somebody else’s I stole because it was cool..

For Sonic’s grab, he does a little dash that goes out and is very quick but has painful
end-lag, making it a risk and reward grab. If he lands it however, he circles around the
opponent. Think Mario vs. Sonic 2018 but a bit closer together to the opponent.

His pummel is afterimages of him punching and kicking the opponent. Now for his throws.

FORWARD THROW: Goes in front of the opponent and rams into them, sends them flying
forward at straighter angles, good for KOing near the ledge, but has a tiny risk as Sonic can
go into the blast zone and oof himself

BACK THROW: Kicks the opponent backwards, like Ganondorf’s back throw but weaker

DOWN THROW: Throws the opponent to the ground and jumps into the air and uses the
bounce to bounce on the opponent three times, (Sonic Lost World) sends them at higher angles

UP THROW: Runs faster in circles, spawning a tornado like in Sonic Heroes or even the Sonic
Movie, Can suck another person in if they’re too close

SPECIALS

NEUTRAL SPECIAL: Works like it does in Ultimate, just LET HIM DO TRICKS LIKE IN
PROJECT M AND + I SWEAR TO GOD

UP SPECIAL: chicken butt (it stays the same in scandinavian)

DOWN SPECIAL: Still the spin dash, but make it work more like it does in Beyond Melee, being
a move that catches opponents off guard. Also make it so that if you do it in the air it becomes
the drop dash, like in Beyond Melee.

SIDE SPECIAL: Just the light-speed dash from Adventure games. Works like it does in Super
Smash Flash 2.
GIMMICK: Style Meter

I think this can eliminate the issue of Campy Sonic. Near Sonic’s damage meter, there’ll be a
bar. How do you fill it you may ask? By being fuckin stylish. Landing a homing attack and doing
a trick fills it, and you can also do air tricks by hitting the grab button while in free-fall. Doing stuff
also like dodging moves with the slide and dodge roll fill it, and combos fill it the most. When the
bar is filled, Sonic’s speed and damage is doubled for 5 seconds.

NOTES

- Make Sonic’s model more expressive my god


- Get Roger in the booth to get original lines (I WANT YOU’RE TOO SLOW BACK)

Hopefully the changes I made made Sonic more fun to play :)

Chapter 2: A New Fighter Enters Smash??

Sonic is one of the most popular gaming characters ever, and it’s a crime he doesn’t have at
least one more character in the roster. There are a bunch of characters to do, and
realistically I’d see Tails and Eggman being the most likely first new Sonic characters, but
holy hell Shadow please. His chaos moveset would be hella sick and the sick badass
attitude he’d bring would be fucking cool holy hell. A moveset like PMEX Remix’s would
probably work the best for him. A close second would be Knuckles with something like his
Project + moveset.

Chapter 3: Setting the Stage


For a new stage, I believe that City Escape is ideal. Have it be like the classic stage and
have the gun truck come out around the bend and run into a part of it, doing big damage to
whoever the sucker was that got hit by it.

Conclusion

And that’s a wrap! I hope you enjoyed reading through this. Maybe one day Sonic will get
the rep he deserves, but at least it’s fun to brainstorm good ideas. See ya!
