 the term used for art produced from 1970’ up to the present day.
 About ideas and concerns, rather than solely the aesthetic

 The term visual arts encompass a wide range of forms created by Filipinos. It ranges from
Western influenced visual art forms to works created by folks or indigenous people.
 Traditionally, these visual art forms include painting, sculpture and architecture.

VISUAL ELEMENTS OF ARTS


1. Line
 a prolongation of a point or a mark in a surface.
Example:
 continuous lines
 parallel line strokes
 crosshatching strokes
 wavy lines
 pointillism
 scribble
 hatched line strokes
 clusters of hatched lines
 continuous wavy lines
 vertical scribble strokes
 clusters of hatched strokes in wood pattern
 combination of strokes

2. Shape and Mass


 refers to an area with boundaries identified or drawn using lines.

3. Color
 refers to visual perception that allows a person to differentiate objects due to the way
various wavelengths of light are reflected.

4. Value
 Refers to lightness or darkness of an area.

5. Texture
 Refers to the feel or appearance of a surface.

6. Space
 Refers to the area that is occupied by an object or a subject, as well as the area
surrounding that object or subject.

7. Time and Motion


 Movement in the visual arts can either be an illusion or an actual motion.

FORMS OF CONTEMPORARY ARTS


1. Painting
 Refers to the process of applying color on a flat surface. Forms can be created using
a variety of materials such as watercolor, acrylic ink, oil pastel and charcoal.
2. Sculpture
 In contrast to painting, sculpture has three dimensions-height, width and depth. It is
created by either carving, modeling or assembling parts together.
3. Architecture
 It is considered as the most functional branches of the visual arts.
4. Literature
 considered to be a whole bulk of written records.
5. Music
 considered to be the least tangible of the arts. It is defined as an arrangement of
sounds to create a continuous and unified composition.
6. Dance
 Dance is an art form involving a series of rhythmic human movements that are
purposefully selected.
7. Theater
 Refers to an art form that involves performing carefully planned actions and
emotions in front of an audience.
8. Cinema
 Technological translation of theater. Special effects are utilized to enhanced the
storytelling
