What is the Nervous System?

 The nervous system includes the brain, spinal cord, and a complex network of
nerves. This system sends messages back and forth between the brain and the
body
What does the nervous system do?
 According to Cleveland clinic, Neurons are specialized cells that the nervous system
utilizes to deliver signals or messages throughout our body. Our brain, skin, organs,
glands, and muscles all receive and transmit these electrical signals. It is an ability
to function. There are two major parts of the nervous system: central and peripheral
nervous systems.
 Let’s talk first about the central nervous system. Central nervous system includes
the brain and spinal cord. Emotions, learning, abilities, and talents are all controlled
by the brain. Brain is divided into three parts:
● Cerebrum,
● Cerebellum; and
● Brainstem.
Cerebrum contains the brain's cognitive, motor, touch, pressure, smell, hearing, vision,
and facial recognition centers. Cerebellum is in charge of maintaining balance,
muscular coordination, and standard body alignment. The brainstem is the area of the
brain that controls bodily functions like breathing and heart rate. And the brainstem
has three sections: the midbrain, pons, and medulla oblongata. Neuron relay stations
and reflex centers are located in the midbrain. The cerebral cortex and medulla are
connected to each other by the pons, which also connects the two sides of the
cerebellum. The spinal cord is located inside your bone vertebral column and uses
various nerves to connect the brain to every part of your body. Therefore, the Central
nervous system is the body’s processing center.
 Now, let’s talk about Peripheral Nervous System. Peripheral Nervous System has
two main parts:
● the Autonomic Nervous System; and
● Somatic Nervous System.
Autonomic nervous system regulates glands and controls involuntary body activities.
While the Somatic nervous system controls muscle tissue movement and transmits
sensory information to the brain from the skin, ears, and eyes. Therefore, the
peripheral nervous system relay information between our brain and the rest of
our body.
So how does the nervous system work together?
 The brain signals the spinal cord when we move. The nerves then send the signal to
the required muscles, causing them to contract and result in movement. In a similar
way, when we touch an object, sensory data is sent from our hands through our
nerves, spinal cord, and brain before being processed by our brains.
