Model Making and Material Identification
Model Making and Material Identification
Group assignment
Introduction:
In this group assignment, you will be tasked with creating a detailed architectural model to
represent a specific project. The focus will be on accurately depicting various materials used in
architecture, including roofing, facades, doors, windows, site utilities, scaled human models,
vegetation, room floor finishes, and water representation. The models will be created using a
1:100 scale, 1:50, and 1:25.
Instructions:
1. Roofing Material:
- Research and identify five types of roofing materials commonly used in architecture.
- Provide concise descriptions and characteristics for each material.
- Present sample materials with appropriate labeling or tagging.
- Consider factors such as functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability.
2. Facades:
- Explore different facade materials and finishes, such as brick, concrete, glass, or timber.
- Select five representative materials commonly used in architectural projects.
- Describe the properties, textures, and visual appearance of each material.
- Demonstrate the selected samples appropriately in visual form.
4. Site Utilities:
- Explore street furniture, street lights, and paving materials commonly found in architectural
spaces.
- Identify five distinct examples of street furniture or lighting fixtures.
- Describe their design characteristics, materials, and functionality.
- Display images or physical samples of each chosen element.
6. Vegetation:
- Research different types of vegetation commonly found in architectural contexts (e.g., trees,
bushes, shrubs, flowers).
- Select five representative examples, considering scale and relevance to the architectural
setting.
- Describe the plant species, characteristics, and desired visual effects.
- Present images or physical samples of the chosen vegetation types.
8. Water Representation:
- Investigate various materials and techniques to represent water in architectural models.
- Research and select five different materials or methods for representing water.
- Explain the characteristics, suitability, and visual effects of each representation technique.
- Showcase visual examples or provide physical samples of the chosen water representation
methods.
Good luck!
